My grandson and I love to go Wonderscope. We arrive at noon on Wednesdays and pretty much Abe the place to ourselves. He loves the water room, the art room and the medical room. We are anxious for the race room and farm to market room to reopen. I hope it is soon. The staff is friendly. For any child under 8, this is a great place to pass an afternoon. As far as the complaint that adults have to pay, I participate in the art and love to build with the Legos! Play with your child!
I haven't gone her but my daughter has taken my grand daughter there a couple of times. Grand daughter loves it
Kids are 2,4,&7 and loved it!! Something for them to do no matter their interest. No visual distraction when playing one area and only one exit to corral kids excitement! Great use for remodeling a school!
A great place for toddlers to elemntary schoolers to explore, play, and learn about puzzles, water, air currents, gravity, building blocks, etc.
Went here at the last minute. Very good place for kids. Our 7 and ten year Olds had a good time. Place was clean and we'll maintained. Price was very reasonable. It was Sunday when we went so not many people were there which made it nice. I'd recommend this place to families with young kids.
First, this is a uniquely wonderful place for adults and children to play and explore. If you choose the right time to go (we were there on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded) then you'll find it a very relaxing and fun experience. If you have appropriately aged children and live close enough to visit often, then definitely buy the membership. This is a place that can be revisited over and over since you can let your child's interests guide each visit. The facility is clean and well maintained. No, it's not fancy but it's a safe, imaginative resource with so much potential. And that leads me to my only complaint. Until last weekend we hadn't been to Wonderscope for over 10 years and I was surprised to see how little had changed. In some ways that's good since young children and their interests don't change much either. But, it seems as though they could use some fresh ideas and vision. We have a new generation of young children in our extended family so I'll be anxious to see how Wonderscope fares as time goes on. I'm rooting for them!
We visited Wonderscope yesterday for the first time and the five of us (3 kids and 2 adults) had a WONDERFUL time. After we paid, the direction we were provided by the very kind staff was “The rule is to touch EVERYTHING and play with EVERYTHING.” How fun! I’ve been reading the reviews, and am so disappointed in the expectations and comments of some of the other parents. First, this is a non-profit location. The only reason it exists is to have some learning and fun for children. Period. That means that yes, mom and dad- you need to have adults and children pay to take care of lighting, water, heat, etc. Someone actually seemed appalled that they are asked to pick up after their children. You don’t go to a movie theatre and leave food just because there are people that “can” pick it up for you.. Or I guess you could. Again, this is a learning and play facility. It will also help your children to learn to be respectful and responsible to replace things they play with before moving on. I’ve also heard a lot about being “run-down” or messy. Well –for a higher admission price I guess you could have folks follow around every child and pick up after them. Some have even said there was no “direction” on what to do in each room? This is creative play! The purpose is to allow the child to take the lead and learn through playing – Learning 101. I’ve lived in Johnson County my entire life, and I guess to sum it up I would say: Bring your kids. Pay the $4-$7 that you likely already spent on the stop at McDonalds before you came, bring hand-sanitizer in your bag if you are overly concerned, and try to see things through the eyes of your child and enjoy watching them explore and learn. You can’t put a price or marble floors on that. BRAVO to the volunteers and sponsors of Wonderscope! We’ll be back often!
It depends on what attracts your child's attention as to how long you stay. A lot of times it is crowded with school groups. Go in the afternoon after the groups have left and children have gone home for their naps, if possible. Then you can have the place almost to yourselves!
Loved the kids area. Hands on play with post office, cooking, doctor, etc. the photos and Johnson county memorabilia were great. Cannot wait to take rest of family
Took a few kids there and they had a great time for a rainy day, or anytime! You need to call first and make sure there's no school tour going on so it's not so packed.
This is a place for kids to learn. This is less a museum and more of a hand-on play and learning facility. It is not owned by the local school district but they use it for field trips and rooms can be reserved for parties and birthdays. It is in an old elementary school building. Each room has something different and fun for the kids to do in math, social studies, science, and art.It is WELL WORTH a visit.
Kids love to learn if it is fun and this place fits them like a glove! If you call ahead, they have a bulletin they can mail you of events they have for children giving you the ages appropriate to the task. My grandson loved it. Have the right attitude when you go and you will enjoy it also.Their Story Time plus Crafts are great for kids 1st grade and under while an older child will be more interested in plays and art. But, the little ones LOVE face painting (especially on their Dad) and the animal feeding. Go to: wonderscope.com/shawnee to plan your trip if you are out of town or in town. Your kids will love you for it..if you take one of their pals along they will be in Heaven!
Our daughters love wonder scope. Fun, interactive and hands-on. We have an annual membership and take full advantage. Best for 2-7 age group. Also fun place to have birthday parties.
Great use of old school. My kids particularly liked the art room. Don't go if you are in a rush because its not worth the money. It is not cheap so best to enjoy for half day or more!
Very cool for young kids under 5 very creative things so may thing they can do on their own would go again
