Great small art museum with interesting exhibits. The exhibits change often. Be sure to check out the children's activities. I have taken students many times. Check their website.

The Mulvane Art Museum on the campus of Washburn University is a true treasure. Five galleries feature ever-changing exhibitions from the museum's collection, as well as visiting exhibits. Staff are warm and friendly and very knowledgable. The gift shop is excellent with a wide variety of art related items. The ArtLab is an experience for all ages. Museum admission is free!

So many paintings and exhibits to view and enjoy. On our visit in November the faculty had an exhibit on the upper floor

We love the Mulvane Art Museum's ART LAB - there is so much to do and the volunteers are wonderful about teaching the various art methods & techniques. Best part of it - it's FREE!!

I am an art lover and an amateur photographer, but this is really a BIG disappointment as an art museum. The collection is extremely limited here. We practically finished this place in 15 minutes. The good thing is the museum is free, and the staff were very friendly. No photography was allowed inside (unless you are an art student on some kind homework assignment). Definitely not worth to come here specifically for this. If you have half an hour to kill, and if you are close by, this might be OK. The art museum at nearby Kansas University (Lawrence) is much better, which is also free.

As a WU student, this a great place to enjoy art (and some peace and quiet). The exhibits are always changing and it's totally worth the trip, especially on a weekday afternoon. The staff is amazing and make it even better.

The Mulvane is small, but always has great shows. They bring in both local and national artists and exhibits. In addition, they offer an "Art Lab" for kids, which is outstanding. They also offer classes for kids and adults.

We went to the Mulvane to see the Charles M. Schulz exhibit. The museum is small but the exhibit was fun. We also viewed the current collection in the upstairs gallery. The gift shop has really neat, unique items!

The Mulvane Art Museum opened in 1924. It's a small, beautiful museum showing a wide variety of art, national and regional in scope. The art lab, which many think is just for kids, is a great experience for all ages. And everything--entry and art lab--is free. The museum is located on the beautiful Washburn University campus and is a good starting point for walking the campus for a tour of outdoor sculpture (pamphlets identifying the outdoor sculpture/locations are found in the museum at the information desk).

This is nice museum to visit if you are in need of something to do in Topeka. It's not like the Nelson Atkins (Kansas City) or Denver Art Museum, certainly not, it is more of a mix of more modern, regional art. However, they do have some interesting traveling shows come in. It's a family friendly museum, it's free, doesn't take a lot of time to see it, it sometimes has exhibits geared towards kids and sometimes shows artwork made by local kids. Every couple of months or so, new exhibits are always coming in, so it gives a reason to keep coming back to Topeka. If you are in the area, you probably should check it out.

We frequent the musuem for several reasons:1) FREE2) Quality of display3) Great help from volunteers!4) The Art Lab in the basement is OUT OF SIGHTThank you for giving my son something to look forward to in art. He becomes inspired with every visit.

Always has unique displays, has a learning lab for kids to learn about/create art. Can be both educational and enjoyable.

Wow! This small college art museum was very impressive. I went to the lego exhibit which was crowded with families, something I have never seen at a college art museum. The museum is small enough, with four large galleries on two floors, and is free. There are some reserved parking spots in the lot across from the museum. The most impressive part of the museum was in the basement where they have several large spaces devotes to art activities for children. There were lots of lego activities, but many other areas from a “cave” where you can put graffiti on the wall to large glass panels to draw on. There were many interesting activities for the kids. I have never seen a college art museum make such an effort to work with children. And they even allow photography! Highly recommended for families.

Any time of year there are a variety of pieces on display. The exhibits usually feature at least one nationally recognized artist, a local artist and a display of international art. The volunteers are very informative and friendly. If you have kids be sure to visit the Art Lab in the basement of the museum. This is a hands on, free, interactive space for kids to learn about art and get creative. This is a must see for any family visiting Topeka.
