The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts is one of the hidden treasures in the Brookfield, WI area. It is set back far off the road in a natural setting with ample free parking. The Center itself is really nice upon entry you will see a beautiful stone fireplace that extends all the way up to the ceiling in their large first floor lobby. The staff which seems to be comprised of mostly volunteers are extremely helpful and friendly. I have attended many concerts in both the Concert/Theatre and the seating is great....no bad seats no matter where you sit. Also have attended performances in their Cabaret style theatre and it is really nice for a close up intimate performance. The Sharon Lynn Wilson Center has a knack for booking very talented established and not so established artists from all of the world encompassing, dance, song and theatre. They also host outdoor events in the summer in conjunction with the Milwaukee Symphony, Opera and so forth outdoors. Almost forgot they have regular art events for painters, sculptures too. A really nice hidden treasure in the Brookfield area.
I love the center. Such great shows are put on here. The camps they offer are amazing. I love the around the center also; so pretty.
The seating was supreme no matter the area .. It was easy to see the performance..The center out side statue depicted the mood of the arts..
Loved the venue - very clean. Several interesting tidbits were presented. Multimedia art in many places both in and around the facility.
Went with a group and were totally impressed by the overall experience. Ambiance is wonderful. Will go again........often!
This facility and the people who run it are doing a great service to Brookfield and neighboring communities. The music acts and other activities that promote the arts provide a balance to the emphasis being placed on sports and media in our culture. The quality of the performances and the facility itself are excellent. The size of the auditorium is just right for this type of facility and the outdoor use in the summer fills out the usefulness well. If you live in the metro Milwaukee area you absolutely need to check out the web site a few times a year for upcoming events. Be advised that parking can get backed up if you arrive late for a big event so tack on an extra 5 to 10 minutes to allow for that.www.wilson-center.com
Located in the middle of Brookfield's Mitchell Park, this Arts Center is stunning to look at, but more importantly, really takes its mission as an arts center seriously. The centerpiece of this facility is the multistory fireplace in the middle of the Grand Hall, which serves as the lobby for the wonderful auditorium. The fireplace was handcarved in place by one artist, and the building was then built around it. It has to be seen to be believed. the auditorium is mid-sized, acoustically about as good as you can get, and fitting with its wildlife setting, features birds in flight suspended from the ceiling in front of the stage (be sure to look up when attending a concert). Besides bringing in class musical and dance acts, the center also is a hub for art classes of all kinds, visual and performance. It also features the Ploch Gallery, with traveling shows there, so they are as true to the visual arts as the performing arts. There is a smaller performance space in the back which they use for, among other things, a jazz cabaret. There are all sorts of sizes of rooms that can be rented for business or other meetings, and the entire facility can be rented for weddings, large and small. The Events Manager, Amy Mikec, is a pleasure to work with on rentals. Worth a trip--this place is a gem.
I stumbled across the Wilson Center about 12 years ago, shortly after it first opened. It is where I saw the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra perform for the first time (goose bumps!), and I've seen many, many other shows since then with my favorites being the dancers and Jesse Cook (flamenco guitar). In the summer, they have free outdoor concerts on Friday nights and it is a must-do activity. Pack your lawn chair and a small cooler and just chill out. They also have food and beverages available for purchase. Although the address is on Capitol Drive, the actual venue is off the beaten path (in Mitchell Park, a mile or so south of Capitol Dr.) and you have to know where you're going which makes this a hidden gem. The main theater, where most of the performances are, is intimate and cozy with comfortable seats and outstanding acoustics. I've been to maybe 10 performances here and never had a bad seat. They have a really cool art fair in the fall, tented on the grounds. I almost hate to rave about this place as much as I am for fear that it won't stay a hidden gem for long.
We have been to many concerts, events, and taken classes at the Wilson Center in Brookfield. It is truly a special gem in our area. The 600 seat auditorium has great acoustics and they bring in such unique acts and entertainment that can usually not be found anywhere else in Milwaukee. Most recently we saw Frank Almond perform at this venue after the recovery of his Stradivarius violin - phenomonal! The building is beautifully designed with high quality artistic touches everywhere. The ticket office and staff have always been helpful when we need assistance. The only problem is that it can be hard for people to find if they are not from the area since the signage on Capital Drive is not great.
