If you enjoy casual antique malls, this one will definitely satisfy your hunger for volume and variety. The mall has neither a regular shape nor any discernible rhyme or reason (located in a rambling old building with uneven floors and many rooms) but that's part of the fun! We often joke about tying ropes around our waists before going in...like cave explorers...so we can find our way back to the entrance. It's easy to get turned around. Lots of stuff to see here! Like a typical antique mall, each booth is rented by individual vendors. And there are literally HUNDREDS of booths to check out. Allow at least a couple of hours to wander around and marvel at all of the items on display. As other reviewers have stated, there doesn't seem to be anything really high-priced here. You'll probably find whatever you're looking for at a pretty good price. (Just make sure to grab it right away--especially on your first visit, don't count on being able to find your way back to a specific booth.) The main entrance/lobby has a little seating area with restrooms, snacks, and beverages for sale if you need to take a break. Also nice: if you accumulate an armload of items to purchase, just take them up to the register. The friendly staff will gladly place your treasures aside while you continue shopping.
Love this place! You just never know what you'll find! I've never come out empty handed as I am a vintage kitchen "nut". Guaranteed....there is something for everyone here. The staff is just great and very helpful. Love shopping during Customer Appreciation Days = 20% off purchases!
This is such a fun place to visit. It is an old building with a lot of history and character. It's also huge, so plan to get there early. I love the variety of things you can find there, from antiques and collectibles to everyday items for your home. Prices vary, but I'very always found prices to be reasonable.
First, let me say that this review is not based on 1 visit, but many visits over decades. It is a huge mall and I like to go there about every other month. it takes us about 3 hours to make it through and we can do it that quickly only because we know what we are interested in and what we are not. It is not filled with only high-end, expensive antiques. You will find a wide range of items from inexpensive flea-market type booths to items that really are quality antiques. Some of the booths are overcrowded and there are very, very few that are new items only. I would classify the overall quality of items as mid-range. That suits me just fine because I am generally not looking to spend thousands of dollars on high end furniture (although I have picked up some incredible pieces of antique furniture here at incredibly good prices). If you have never been here, I would say you should go if you like small items, like to spend time searching and picking up items to look at, like to see a wide range of items, like to walk, don't mind a hodge-podge atmosphere, and can enjoy the hunt for a good deal. If you are someone looking for an upscale, retail-display, exclusive boutique atmosphere, then this is not for you. For us, we enjoy going because you never know what you might find. There are no high-pressured sales, and if we don't find anything, that's perfectly OK too. The owners and staff have always been friendly and helpful.
If this is your cup of tea, well there is a lot of it!! If you are interested in smalls, dishes, glasswear, etc., etc. you can spend hours prowling on floor after floor. There is something for everyone I am sure, but you will need a good block of time to find it. Do not come expecting lots of high end furniture, silver, or rugs. There are good buys on a lot of the stock. In fact some oriental vases and lockets, dishes, and glassware are well worth the effort to find it and avoid ebay shipping fees. Wear comfortable shoes & do not bring the very young or old as you will have to listen to repeated renditions of "Can we leave yet?"
When this place bills itself as the "Largest Antique Mall in Wisconsin", they are not kidding; the place is huge!! Room after room after room on 3 floors of an old canning factory is full of antiques, collectibles, and some "rummage sale" type stuff. If you want to spend time looking at everything in some level of detail, you'll need to plan on at least 4, if not 5, hours. Some prices were very, very good.... others were not -- it just depends on the mood/style of each of the 200+ vendors, I guess. Staff were extremely friendly. NOTE: NO DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED; THEY DO TAKE PERSONAL CHECKS. Inside the same building is the Christopher Columbus Museum -- it looks very extensive, we just didn't have time to explore it
We spent about 3 hours there one Sunday morning just to pass some time. We were tickled they were open. During that time, we only saw the lower level of antiques and the last 45-60 mins we kind of rushed just so we could see "everything". Never did see the museum. We'll have to go back to see the rest. Everything was nicely displayed and clean. Interesting building as well.
Huge antique mall that took us anout 3.5 hours to make it through, lots of different merchandise to satisfy a wide variety of collectors, fair prices on most items, although one of the sections has a terrible smell to it, i cant describe it maybe moldy wet carpet, but is bad, and they don't take credit cards would be the 2 down sides to the mall, also they close at 4:00
Spent four hours at this mall and never got beyond the first of three floors! Wide variety of antiques and collectibles with plenty of "guy" stuff! Most of the dealers have their items well-organized and well-marked. They must know how much time folks will spend in there as they have an area set aside for relaxing and snacking. Shelves are provided behind the counter so you can store your "finds" during the day prior to checking out.
Huge space with a great assortment of antiques, antique and vintage books, etc., etc. We had our wire fox terrier along, and he stayed with us while we shopped, happy to sit in a shopping cart with a blanket in the bottom. One of the managers even brought us up and down from the second floor in the old frieght elevator! The staff is extraordinarily hospitable. There is also a large variety of beverage and food refreshments available at the entrance to keep your engines stoked. Overall a very fun romp!
The Columbus Antique Mall is in an old canning factory in Columbus WI. It is huge and it's easy to loose track of time looking at all the items for sale here. It's not a traditional antique store so the prices on most items are much cheaper than you might expect.. There are a few dealers with overpriced junk but most are pretty reasonable. My favorite section is the furniture area located on the top floor. It's kind of creepy. I never bring more than $20.00 and always end up walking out with a bag full of treasures.
I felt compelled to review this mall because of the negative review on here. Yes, I know, antiques should be 100 years old to be official. But how many antique malls these days have all 100 year-old items? Not many! My friend and I drove up from Madison to go here. We knew what it was like because we were here several years ago and wanted to check it out again. There are 3 massive floors of interesting items. We didn't buy a whole lot, but for the price of admission (free), we had 3 hours of entertainment looking at every conceivable item under the sun.
Antique items must be at least 100 years old. Vintage items need to be 50 years old. This mall is a gigantic garage sale/flea market. I was extremely disappointed. It was filled with junk and the booths were so crammed full I couldn't even look at items. I had to leave because I was so overstimulated by the amount of junk that I got a headache! This mall is for collectors - not true antique enthusiasts. Don't waste your time if you truly want to look for antiques. There are quite a few shops in this area of WI that are very nice and worth the visit, but this isn't one of them!
