The High Ground is a Memorial to all Veterans. It was started by Tom Miller as an idea and how Wisconsin came to be chosen as the site is unknown to me, but I am glad that my home state was chosen for this prestigious undertaking. It pays tribute not only to Veterans, but to the women and families left behind when men go to war. There are numerous statues and sights to see on the grounds. I wish I could describe the feelings I as a veteran experienced when there but I can't. Just know I was very humbled by what I could see due to the weather. I plan a return trip to take the tour in July or August. I had been told about this site for over four years and I finally went on a lark. I wish I would have gone much sooner. You have to see it to truly experience it.

The Highground is a place to honor and remember Veterans, heal the soul, and acknowledge what you have in life to appreciate. The grounds include several memorials to Veterans including a Vietnam War tribute. Several flower and plant arrangements throughout the memorials invite you to appreciate the beauty of the grounds while paying tribute to fallen soldiers. As a resident of Neillsville, I visit the Highground to not only pay my respects, but to find peace and balance. This is an absolute must-see when visiting or travelling through the area.

Being a veteran myself I appreciate any memorial to the ones that serve. I have visited this place since I was a young teenager. A better visit during the fall when leaves are changing color. Nice "in the country" grounds area. Nice selection of memorials. They also have a small gift shop but limited items. Neillsville is a few miles away. No charge for visit but they take donations. If driving in the area I would definitely stop by. A nice visit to add to a country drive if in the area. Being very honest (and respectful) the place is nice and all, but I would not suggest driving a great distance to see this unless you are planning a special trip to see veterans sites. Again, I'm not trying to be disrespectful. The veterans museum in Madison would be my suggestion if you are traveling to Wisconsin to just see a good memorial.

What a beautiful setting for a sensitive tribute to all our veterans. This memorial goes a long way to NOT glorify war or take sides in military conflicts. It thanks all our servicemen and women for their contributions, and offers a place of healing, artistic expression, and education. By all means, borrow the headphones and take the free audio tour...and don't pass up the chance to ring the Liberty Bell!

Simply stunning--a must see! The Park is informative and emotionally affecting at the same time. It covers all eras of wars that Wisconsinites would have been involved in.

This is a Memorial Park for all veterans. This was started as a Wisconsin Viet Nam Veteran Memorial, but it has grown to include veterans from all American conflicts It has a section for fallen Native Americans also.Memorial pavers and bronze placards with names of fallen veterans are everywhere. There is a new area for the middle east conflict veterans.There are sculptures and There is even a full sized replica of the Liberty Bell that can be rung,This is a very emotional place and the audio tour is a must.This is a must see for every veteran.

It was quite by accident that we happened onto the High Ground Memorial Park. Traveling from Minneapolis to Manitowac, WI...we chose a more scenic route - Highway 10. My husband, a Vietnam combat infantry veteran saw the High Ground sign along the side of the road and knew he had to stop. High Ground has a significant meaning to infantrymen. I truly believe that it was simply fate that put us on that path that day. We spent nearly two hours at the park. We were greeted by a volunteer who gave us a brief explanation of the park and gave us a headset that we wore as we walked around the park with a moving description of how the idea of the park was concieved and the many additional monuments were added. I cannot even begin to tell you how peaceful, and healing the experience was. I am moved to tears just typing this entry. I am the Events Planner for a my husband company of soldiers who have an annual reunion. This would be a perfect location... Please take the time to visit if you are anywhere near this part of Wisconsin.

The grounds were just amazing with 8 or 9 different memorials/walkways. The Memorials were just beautiful. Each one is it's own little tribute to a different war and/or culture. Very much a lovely artistic expression of our thanks/gratitude to the veterans of multiple wars.

The Highgrounds is a beautiful place to visit or just reflect. The Memorials that have been established for all wars/conflicts are very nice. You can also walk the trails which are all maintained well. I have been visiting this park since it was first started, at that time you walked on wooden planks, now it is all paved and easy to get around even if you have some physical disabilities. They like to say that this Veterans Memorial Park is not so much for those we have lost, but for the living. They now also have a building that you can go through that has alot of info you can look at, each month they focus on something different. The gift shop is nice and they offer a variety of things that you may purchase. If you are in the area, there are motels and campgrounds close by. The Highgrounds was built on donated land and has been built and maintained entirely by private donations and volunteer help. NO government monies involved! We try to visit at least once a year. They have a website that also tells more about it. The Highgrounds is open 24/7. The shops do have hours.
