My wife and I, along with our friends Dan and Nancy, visited The Paine Art Center and Gardens on Feb. 28 to see the “Winslow Homer in America” exhibit. The exhibition features 125 original wood engravings from his work from the late 1850’s through the mid-1870’s, which includes a number of Civil War scenes. I found this exhibition quite interesting and very well done. It includes a short description of each work to help explain what the artist was trying to portray in the scene. There is a LOT of detail in each piece- so be sure to allow enough time so that you can study and enjoy the pieces. The exhibition will be at The Paine through May 31. Check out their website for more information. There is a reasonable fee to get into The Paine for this exhibition although our membership covered this visit. We spent a little time afterwards touring some of the other parts of The Paine. My wife and I go several times a year and always enjoy it. We’ll be sure to go again during the summer, when the gardens are at their peak. If you enjoy art and the history of the mid- late 1800’s, don’t miss this exhibition!

We took a shopping break on Black Friday and did the self guided tour of the Nutcracker in the castle with our teen aged granddaughter. The house was beautiful and the Xmas decorations amazing. The trees were all different and rooms told the story of the Nutcracker. The docent in the gift shop was very knowledgeable. Even our granddaughter got caught up in counting the little mice figurines in each room.

We visited the Paine Art Center and Gardens this morning. The house was fascinating. It's huge and was built to replicate a home that has been in a family across the centuries so the decor of the house changes from room to room as if it's been built onto. The grounds are lovely though they are not extensive.Be sure to check under the placard in each room -- there is a binder with more detailed information hidden there.

My parents came to visit and they love to see old houses and some history. The Matisse exhibit was very cool, interesting to see some drawings and etchings that you don't normally get. I personally enjoyed the gardens even more than the house. Find a gorgeous day and check them out!

The Paine home is fantastic. The gardens are worth spending time there. The art exhibit was informative and new to me. Entrance fee was a little high.

the Paine is a surprise bit of culture in this old rust belt town. a current exhibit of glass artistry is fascinating. The museum building, the Paines house in which they never lived is a work of art in itself. Well worth a visit.

This is one attraction you can come back to and visit time and time again, and still find new things. Very family friendly as far as the exhibits and displays go, although young children may not find things as interesting (They do have a small children's area). The gardens (when in bloom) provide a feeling of serenity and peace, as one could get lost in the beauty alone. They do host special workshops and displays, which can be very interesting. Always a pleasure to visit.

Read between lines and check out the real history of the Paine. The family never moved in due to death threats from the under-paid laborers that lived in the row houses by the river. The workers threatened to blow up the hose if the Paines moved in, when the workers families were poor and owed everything to the rich Mr. Paine. Ask the locals whose grandparents worked inOshkosh during this time. Beautiful art and interesting decorating. Maybe if Mr. Paine was a far employer he would have enjoyed this mansion.

Enjoyed the "Rooms of Blooms" with our 7 yr old granddaughter who thought it was just lovely! Our favorite is the "Nutcracker in the Castle" during the Christmas season! The Paine offers so many great exhibits year round for young and old. Keeping the arts alive!

A wonderful museum with a rich local history. Exhibits change every few months and the Christmas events are worth a special trip. The gardens are spectacular spring through fall.

Visited this museum during the summer when the Tiffany Glass Exhibit was there. It was breathtaking. The Art Center is very nice, with lovely exhibits and nice grounds. The display of annual flowers was gorgeous.
