Stopped in winter, -10 outside so couldn't explore too much. Nice, educational place. The lumberjack stories were interesting.

This is a must-see for both the view and the learning center. The center has a wide range of professional exhibits that fit for all ages, all housed in a beautiful stone building.

Went there to get information for a trip along the great River Road. I talked with the woman and she didn't tell me much, She gave me three brochures and went back to working on what she was doing. So I sent my husband in to see if he could get more info and he she was very helpful to him and gave him a bunch of travel trips and several more brochures.

Pre-american to native American to early American all used the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers as travel and destination routes to explore our great country. Enjoy the views and learn history as you make your way along this great travel route. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable.

Stop for a bit, stretch your legs and enjoy the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center. Here you’ll find a small interpretative center detailing the history of the area, outdoor art, well-maintained butterfly/bird gardens, and excellent views of the river. There is also a picnic area and children’s playground. All are well-maintained. Recommended if traveling with children - the Center’s learning opportunities accommodate a variety of ages, as do the information plaques near the outdoor river view lookout areas.

Situated in Freedom Park on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center (GRRV&LC) has much to offer. Take a stroll along the paved interpretive trail overlooking the river as trains (40-50 per day) roar by below, watch barges glide by, enjoy the flower garden and restored prairie, watch birds at the numerous feeders, go inside to learn more about nature and history of the area, and visit the book store and gift shop. Covered picnic areas overlook spectacular views and a playground area is also provided. An unusual exhibit is an outdoor sculpture called "A Deer and Two Herons" made from objects and trash discarded in the river and removed by volunteers. The site is great for birders and located along the Mississippi Flyway. The valley is only about a mile wide here and birds (including 40% of all North American shorebirds) are funneled into a narrow area between the bluffs. The GRRV&LC is located on the Great River Road, a national scenic byway, is a national park site, is recognized as an Audubon birding site, and has a bench created by local volunteers as part of the St. Croix Valley Art Bench Trail. The center is open seven days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day and closed on Mondays the rest of the year. However, there are restrooms, water and travel brochures in the lobby which are accessible even if the visitor center is closed.

Great views inside you will find a lot of information and interesting facts. The outside area is well cared for with a variety of plants and flowers. There is also a butterfly garden and a unique sitting area near it. The playground is well kept and clean.

Visited while making a tour of Rustic Roads. Way to go Wisconsin. The Visitor and Learning Center really help to understand the places along the way. Very informative.
