I and 3 thousand other volunteers built this in twelve days, back in 1997. It is a favorite of kids from the entire area. This massive all wood complex was entirely funded and built buy locals for the children of Doylestown and the surrounding region. It is located in Central Park, on Wells Road, and is the scene of various events, like the annual 4th of July Extravaganza: concert and fireworks.
So thankful we all live in the world of Internet and GPS, so finding this hidden gem in the quaint town of Doylestown isn't that hard after all.Our 7- and 4-year olds got overwhelmed at its size at first, perhaps thinking it's more like a real castle or a big house and not a playground. But their hesitation went away once they mingled with fellow kids who were having a blast exploring every nook and cranny of this wonderful structure. We parents even had smiles on our faces the whole time we were there, plastered even longer because of the 38°F temperature with blowing winds at the time (1st week of November). We will surely be back most likely next Spring! A beautiful playground that needs to be cherished and properly used by everyone.
Great place to go with the family. The castle is really for kids about 9 and younger any older and they are too tall. But there is basketball and soccer fields there as well. It has a bathroom and water fountain with picnic tables
The title says it all. A huge wooden castle with slides, ropes, steps, inclines, netted floors. My kids adored this place when they were little.Very, very cool.
We just happened to find this hidden gem of a playground while on vacation. Our two year old LOVED it. Spent over 2 hours there and got upset when it was time to go. I had fun chasing him all throughout castle even though I had to duck most of time.
Kids castle is fantastic for little kids and big kids (up to 12 maybe). Very clean and well cared for as well as just being one of the most unique climbing structures around. There is a lot to do so plan on spending at least an hour there, more if you want to walk, bike or rollerblade on the path across the street.
I dreamt of a playground like this as a child, I can only imagine how it looks through the eyes of one. It's a HUGE structure, and thanks to 100% private donations for new renovations, our kids can enjoy it for many more years to come. A beautiful, clean park with a little creek in the back where my kids always seem to get soaked. They love it!
Kids' Castle gives kids a chance to play in a structure not readily found in the backyard. Sharing, getting to know new kids and just having fun exploring and challenging yields lots of long lasting good memories.
My kids are 10, 8, and 6 and they all loved Kids Castle! It is NOT a playground for little kids - I probably wouldn't let anyone under 4 in it. Worth mentioning that adults can't really go in it either, due to low ceilings, narrow passagways, tunnels, etc. Parents, sit on a bench with a book and let your kids go crazy. There is also a really nice paved bike/running path behind the castle - take the footbridge over the marsh (pussy willows!) - it runs through the woods, alongside the creek. If there were bathrooms, we didn't notice them.
Wow what an amazing experience. It's a must visit, everyone in the family enjoyed including e adults. There is so much to do the abstacle course, winding 3/4 story tall slides, climbing, you name it and the castel has it at some level. Very convenient parking, restrooms, we even took a nice walk around the park, it's failed large and we noticed many were bicycling, jogging. Ice cream truck in the parking lot was a real treat !!!
My kids, 2 & 6 LOVED Kids' Castle! We went with friends of ours (with a 4 & 6 yo) and they stayed for almost 2 hours! There is so much to see and explore. Though my 2 yo was very intimidated at first (he did have a brief crying fit when he couldn't find his way out), he got warmed up and convinced mommy to come exploring with him. I think it'll be even better for his age group when the Pirate Ship is completed! You WILL loose sight of your kids, and maybe for a while, BUT there is only one entrance/exit, so if they haven't passed you they're still exploring! The bathrooms are across the parking lot, so make sure they go first! I'm so pleased that this was FREE!
My boys are 10 and 8 and have either outgrown most playgrounds or are too big to be around the toddlers at most playgrounds. So while visiting their grandparents, we checked it out. With a 5-12 year old sign, it's clearly for older kids. They had a great time. The only reason we didn't stay longer was because the heat and not enough shade. We will be back.
Once I got inside, it was massive. It's about half the size of a real medieval castle. There were about five different floors. On the lowest floor, you got to hunt for (cardboard cut-out) goose eggs. The slides didn't really have any static in them, which was good. It was very crowded and chaotic. Some kids were trying to play tag in there, and I'm not even sure how they could tell who was "It." The only way you could tell which floor you were on was, there were these panels made of rope, and you could look down and see how many panels were below you before the wood chips, which were at the ground floor. The exit floor was the second floor. - Cameron, aged 9
Took three grand daughters today, ages 10, 7 and 4 and they all had a ball! Impressive playground in scenic Doylestown with picnic pavilions, nature paths and huge rolling fields. We packed a lunch and ate there and even the genius ice cream truck came by. Lots of kids and benches for the adults, a little hard to keep an eye on the kids sometimes. Only gave 4 stars because the bathrooms are really far from the castle and they were pretty gross. And we got there around noon so I can't imagine how they look by closing time which is dusk.
You don't have to be under age 16 to experience this mega fantasy jungle gym. You just have to be adventurous and flexible in a few tight places. I've screamed down the twirling tunnel slides many times with my grandchildren.
