This had some nice items such as pottery for sale and a wonderful wood carving with many moving parts. The business closed in December.
There is an amazing wooden city, hand carved, that is definitely worth seeing. They also have handmade crafts and Polish Pottery. They are very friendly and are proud to show their wares. Some of the gifts are very unique.
After 14 years as a Mission Shoppe to help the people of Slovakia (and 30 other countries), the Slovak Folk Craft store (with its amazing animated woodcarving) has closed as of Jan. 5, 2015. Thank you to all who visited and supported this endeavor over the years. It was an amazing place to visit, shop and learn about the Slovak people and their beautiful country. Ruth Ann, "VP Marketing"
Animated wood carving of the nativity is a must see. The owner of the Slovak store had this created by Slovakian artisan several years ago. There is probably nothing like it anywhere in United StatesOne of the best selections a Polish pottery in the state
This shop was very disappointing. Their brochure and website brag about the mission to help the unemployed from Slovakia. The animated wood carving is impressive, but there is very little craft wise from Slovakia. Most is Polish, Czech, etc. No dolls, blankets, walking sticks, or crafts. The little they did have I can buy from Amazon. The woman working there said the cost of shipping is too expensive from Slovakia and they had any items 3 years ago. The place is a scam, and apparently the mission has failed. Do not waste your time. I have seen more selection at the Pittsburgh Folk Festival.
Wow....if you go to Grove City to go shopping or are on your way north or south on I79, please make the effort to stop here...its about 5 minutes or less off the interstate,,,everything is from slovakia and surrounding areas....and it benefits them....lots of wonderful pottery and everything else to pick from...tshirts and magnets (i even got a Hungarian one)...the wood carving is so amazing that alone is worth the stop...so exit grove city and stop in.....you won't be sorry
This mission store is a MUST if you are traveling on Interstate 79, North or South. It's just one mile away and seeing the huge woodcarving will have you saying "I am SO glad we stopped!". Something for everyone from the Polish pottery to fair trade items from 30 different countries. Their motto is "Every customer is a missionary"; that tells you a lot!
The big attraction here is a 17' x 8' x 6' wood carving of a collection of scenes from a Slovak village. Beautifully designed and crafted, it has a number of moving parts that bring the village to life. A narrative account of its creation provides insight into the craftsmen from Slovakia who created it. The shop has a few wooden trinkets for sale as well as an expansive collection of Polish dishware with a variety of patterns. Take time to talk to the owners about their store as well as their connection to Slovakia.
Excellent selection of items for sale and an awesome animated wood carving from Slovakia to see. Owners have been to Slovakia several times on teaching and mission trips. Some monies are returned to the Slovakian artisans.
Quaint little shop featuring a very detailed wood carving with many moveable items. Its worth the short trip 1 mile from the outlets on I 79. Not really a shop for young kids, lots of pottery at little people level.. If your looking for pottery there is lots of nice stuff. http://www.slovakfolkcrafts.com/shop/cart.php
If you visit here, you can see an enormous hand-carved wooden scene of Slovakia with moving parts. Pretty amazing.
Did make sure out fragile items that we purchased were wrapped properly. She said they throw away the packing material. It would make sense to save the wrapping material to minimize trash and make sure purchased items stand a chance of making home without breaking.
This is a really interesting and beautiful carving that moves and is just amazing. Well worth the visit.
Wonderful family run business. Quality pottery of many designs, beautiful crystal and large selection of other retail items. Wonderful hand carved display. Well worth taking the time to stop.
Their selection of Polish pottery is quite extensive. They have many different patterns and unique pieces to choose from. However, their prices are on the high side. If price is not a consideration, and you're looking for Polish pottery, this is your place!
