Hi Ana,I'm so sorry our Medieval Event was cancelled for your visit. It is a fabulous event, unfortunately sometimes we have to make tough decisions based on the weather forecast. It ended up being a pretty nice weekend and I'm glad you and your husband decided to stick around! We hope you'll come visit us again in the future!
Hi PhillySteeler,Thanks for visiting us at the Plantation! We're glad to hear you've had a great experience. And you're right - our family membership is by far a great deal for families that live relatively close by! Thanks for sharing your review with us and the Trip Advisor Community!
We have gone to the plantation many times over the years. When the kids were small we took them to show them how people lived in the 17 & 18 hundreds. When the grandchildren came along we did the same thing. Now we go for ourselves. The place is very realistic and gives you a sense of how hard life was "back in the day". It makes you appreciate what you have today, like indoor plumbing, electricity, cooking ranges, refrigerators, etc. Some years ago we went for our Thanksgiving dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. The people were very friendly, the food was good but a little on the cool side because it is hard to keep all the food warm when you don't have a stove. They had a violin player and a guitar player that played music during the dinner. The nice thing about the dinner was that it was all original and authentic. We have always met nice prople there. A rel gem right in our own backyard.
The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation is an authentic living history site with the purpose of enhancing understanding of mid- to late-18th century farm life in Southeastern Pennsylvania, provided within the context of early American history, the setting where the impact of King George's taxes was felt, the American melting pot began to simmer, and American ingenuity took root. Included in the tour are various buildings including an 18th century farmhouse, stone cabin, springhouse, wagon barn, stone cabin, springhouse and two barns. It is a working farm, where animals are raised and vegetables are grown.
This was a fun visit to a working 18th century farm where they do things as they did in the 1700s. Had a nice house where they had open hearth cooking going on. Also some interesting varieties of farm animals from the time period and a large kitchen garden. Very interesting building where they show and explain how flax and wool was spun and made into clothing. Sometimes they do events with various period reenactors as well as events for kids.
