Great Brewery and tour. The 3rd oldest brewery in the US and a local treasure. Anywhere that offers free beer (2 per visit) has got to gain 5 stars!
Great beer - one of the few I will drink - asking for it 1st if I am in the region. It's preservative free too. If you drink from the eternal tap - remember to wash your glass BEFORE & after. :)
Maybe it's because we moved away, but each time we return the beer seems to taste better! Take the factory tour and sample the "eternal tap". Buy a shirt from the gift shop. Friendly employees!
Small brewery with big time appeal!!! Awesome hospitality, great tour and you can hear what is being said. Open tap room is sure to please. Brewery making seasonals now!
Took the tour at the Straub brewery. Very interesting to see how the beer is produced. Eternal Tap was also a nice touch, free tour and free beer, how can you beat that?
This beer really tastes great! We had promised friends to bring some back and bought sampler boxes of Lager, IPL, Pilsner and Hefeweisen -- all delicious.
We were fortunate enough to have timed our arrival at the most opportune time to take in a tour of the brewery that was about to begin. You are welcome to sample the beer and the tour was fantastic
If you are in St. Mary's definitely stop in at the Straub Brewery. Most likely you can get a tour. You can definitely schedule one on-line if you give them enough notice. Just go to their website. The tour was short but very informative. Learned a few things that I did not know beforehand. Most enjoyable and entertaining. Free samples at the "Eternal Tap". My wife and I were the only ones scheduled for the morning tour but we had to cancel due to an ice storm that closed some of the roads. But they went out of their way to give us an afternoon tour that's normally not given on Weds. Very, very nice of them. We definitely recommend you stop and check it out. It's a local family owned brewery with a family type atmosphere. Beer is very tasty and they give you quite a few flavor options. One of the few beers that still naturally brewed with no preservatives or additives.
The Straub brewery is a cool place. And, they'll sell you a keg with all the hookups at a decent price. If you have nothing else to do, and you like nice, fresh beer, go visit it.
We toured the Straub Brewery after sampling from “the eternal tap”. The external tap is a tap system set up with all three of the Straub Beers varieties so guests can sample to see which they like the best. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and polite. She told use about the history of Peter Straub and his coming to America and how he learned brewing and took ownership and started the Straub Brewery. The guide took us through the different stages of production. The tour is quite interesting and educational. Our family has always enjoyed factory tours. As we traveled through the production lines we were offered a sample bottle right from the filling station. It was cold and flavorful. The gift shop sells a variety of souvenirs most relatively pricey but there are some inexpensive options too. This is definitely a place to stop while in the Saint Marys area.
Its worth a look. One of America's oldest breweries, Straub uses no sugar, salt, or preservatives - a very German style beer. You can visit the endless tap for a sample once you take a tour.
My husband and I decided to tour the Straub brwerey on a trip to Benezett. We went into the "office area " , signed the guest book and went into the very small gift shop. We seen a man come out the "brewery doors" and go into the gift shop. We were never acknowledged, this man and two women in two seporate offices. Never a hello, can I help you, nothing. We left extemely dissapointed. For a small town brewery I expected them to be very friendly and customer orientated. Boy I was I wrong.
Small brewery, that is what St Mary's is all about, the only thing to do in this town, but it was quaint, the Guide was informative and it was about 20 min. tour than could drink from "eternal tap", three different beers, cute small gift shop, glad we went, but as they say.. been there, done that!
It is fun to take the tour. You can always have a couple of glasses of beer to sample. Little gift shop. Friendly people. We always buy lots of beer to take back home to friends.
A small family brewery in the wilds of Pennsylvania is something you must see. They give a great little tour, and offer you a beer right off the bottling line. It is the freshest beer you will ever taste. And don't miss the Eternal Tap.
