I agree with previous reviews in that Century III mall continues to wane. Many of the storefronts are not occupied and the stores that remain do not seem to have the selection that's in the same stores in other malls.
This mall, when first built, was a showcase in the south hills area of Pittsburgh. Over the years, though, it has had a fairly rapid decline as people now buy more and more over the internet.
This mall could be great if maintained and if there were stores in it. It is like a ghost town - all the store fronts are empty with many of the stores leaving - going out of business. Even Sears is leaving I noticed today. Needs new owners and a lot of work.
I used to frequent this mall in the 80's and early 90's. It was the hip, happening place to be. It was vibrant, alive, and bustling with activity. I moved away and hadn't been back in years. My wife and I were shopping for our daughter at a girls / ladies apparel store and were informed the item we were looking for was out of stock, but they had some at the Century III store. They placed a call and put the item on hold for us. We then ventured to C3M. That's where the tale takes a scary, scary turn. First, the roads looked - and drove - like they hadn't been maintained in years. Whole sections of the second - level parking lot were cordoned off due to the HOLES. We parked by a mall entrance and went inside. I had originally thought that a power outage had hit the place and they were running on backup generators or something as the entire place was only half lit and only the UP escalators were running. Additionally, an entire WING had no stores in it at all and was barely lit. It appeared to be a scene out of "Escape From New York" or some other futuristic apocalyptic movie. We hastily moved beyond the packs of riff-raff (which were the only patrons in the entire mall) and arrived at our destination. After securing our purchase, we marveled at how run down and "cheap" the majority of businesses were that remained. I was half expecting my car to be up on blocks and the tires gone when we returned to it to make our escape, but thankfully it was unscathed. Don't waste your time or jeopardize your safety by patronizing this mall - surf the web and buy it online!
We had to leave our Vanagon with Pep Boys and this mall was nearby. NO SIDEWALKS - felt like we were risking life and limb to walk a very short distance from Pep Boys on Clairton Blvd to the Mall. You cross at a crosswalk but it ends at a hill that you have to climb - with crub brush vegetation to wade through - or walk on a busy road (no shoulder). The Mall would be a good shooting location for a post-apocalyptic movie - huge empty spaces and some of the stores closed. No pay phones anywhere. The washrooms were dirty and the anchor stores worn feeling. Don't mind older malls - but this one seemed abandoned.
It is a shamed. It used to be a very good mall to visited, full of stores and so on. Now it has a ugly appearance due to the slag dumps, it is starting to get empty and on some occasion rowdy kids are around, making me fear for my safety. It is not a good place to visit anymore. Half the employees are uninterested as well.
this place has been here along time and the roads in and around are like tobacco roads of the south. being built on a slag dump should have made roads impervious to the waves, holes and bumps.you will need to have your vehicle serviced at pep boys for front end work. they should pay people to shop here
