Whether you live in the area or are visiting this is a must do at least once. They have special things going on like dinner cruises that you can take advantage of if you wish. It is seasonal but you can take a cruise and catch a ballgame went the Senators (a double A team for the Nationals) are in town. You can also take in the other things of interest that may be going on at City Island as well.
The boat boarded at 4:45 for the 5pm sailing. The main area has tables preset with salads and bread. Spaces are tight & some groups may be seated with other guests. They had service for about 68. Tables of 2 lined both sides and tables of 8 were in the center. We had pre-chosen our dinners of beaf tips or turkey with corn and mashed potatos with gravy. For dessert they served pumpkin pie. Water was provided but other beverages including alcoholic and non alcoholic were available for purchase at the bar. The "cruise" took exactly 2 hrs and went around city island, so you do see the same things a few times. I recommend heading uptop (wearing a jacket!) for sunset. It worked out perfectly for us between dinner & dessert. We were the only two up there! After dessert the top deck is crowded. Unfortunately we didn't have much fall foliage due to warm weather this year. There was live music on the top deck that they also played thru speakers inside. All in all a nice time. Children under age 13 are not permitted.
We did the Murder Mystery Dinner Tour on the Pride on Friday Oct. 24th they titled it Hollow Weenie. We had never done anything like this before and had a great time, the food was good (my hubby wants me to try to make the dish at home) and the actors were entertaining. You need to make reservations early for these shows as they fill up fast. We will probably do this again next year. Oh yeah and we didn't pick the right criminal.
We recently did one of the pride of the Susquehanna's murder mystery dinner cruises. We had a wonderful time. The cast was entertaining and great to interact with. The first act was a little slow but they laid the ground work and it was entertaining in the end. The food was surprisingly yummy. I usually don't expect much out of something catered at an event like this, but was pleased. Warm and yummy, I would eat it again. Overall wonderful time and will have to try another one of there themed events.
Had a beautiful evening cruise and informative wine tasting on a Sunday night. They have plenty of theme cruises including wine tastings, beer tastings, party rentals ... Look them up.
Ride an authentic diesel paddle wheel boat down the Susquehanna while getting a great view of riverfront Harrisburg and the west shore! Captain and crew were friendly, ride was smooth. View of the bridges and riverfront park. Nice ride!!! Was listed as a 45 minute ride. Would have loved longer but all in all a great value for the money. The only problem is, getting to it is not really clearly marked. Handicapped parking is fairly far from the actual boat.
The Pride of the Susquehanna is a nice quiet ride on a paddle boat on the Susquehanna River on City Island, Harrisburg, PA. This boat ride is reasonably priced. You can ride on the top deck in the open air or downstairs inside. We were on the top deck. You had a beautiful view of the city skyline. Overall - just a nice Sunday afternoon event.
It was a beautiful day on the river; it is just that the trip was so short. We went down the river 20 minutes and came back up the same route. There was nothing that you could not see from the dock. I would prefer to pay more and have a longer ride. Also, we printed out our tickets as instructed in the email which said "this will serve as your boarding pass". When we went to board, we were told we had to go to the ticket booth and get a ticket. When we got to the ticket booth, she gave us a really hard time telling us the boat was already full and she did not want to give us tickets even though we had already purchased our tickets and had reservations. The communication needs to improve....
We went as a family of four and really enjoyed it. I did have a 2 for 1 coupon, so it was 20 for all of us to go, which was quite reasonable. The scenery is great, and the cheap beer on the boat was a plus. The kids enjoyed it was well.
We had a Groupon coupon--$12 for two persons--normally adults $10, seniors $8 for this pleasant paddle boat tour. During the summer there appear to be 4 tours a day, at different times. After September 1, they only operate on weekends. We took the 12 noon tour from City Island in the middle of the river which has free parking. The tour lasts 45 minutes with about 30 minutes of taped information about the river and the history of the city. There is outdoor seating upstairs and enclosed seating downstairs. There are food and drinks available for sale. A very pleasant way to see and learn about the area. My only complaint--there is only one speaker upstairs and it should be louder--it was somewhat difficult to hear at times.
We had a beautiful day to go on the Pride of the Susquehanna for a 45 min river paddleboat cruise. Enjoyed the information about the history and the area (but the commercial for cruises was too long). Lots of families enjoying the day. Not enough seating up top for everyone, but they let us bring chairs from inside on the lower deck and we had a nice time.
The cruise was a great! The staff was friendly and extremely helpful -- once you located them on the island! There are no signs once you arrive on City Island to help you locate the boat and the ticket stand. There is a way to drop off handicapped visitors, however, we didn't know that until we walked halfway around the island. It would be a much more pleasant experience if we had not been so stressed with a long long walk and steep steps! Please increase signage so everyone can come enjoy!
Rode the pride with our grandsons and had a great day. We rode on the top deck since it was a cool day. Food and drinks available. Intercom system could be a little louder for those riding to learn the history of the area.
We were on a chartered event, so I'm not sure if all the wonderful things we experienced are available for every cruise. Arriving at City Island, parking is plentiful but may involve a very long walk with some stairs to get to the departure point. The excitement starts before the cruise begins, as a staff member came out to meet and greet the guests, answer questions, and give short bits of information about the city and the river. Just a short walk across a walkway brings you to the Pride. There's a large enclosed lower level, complete with a bar / refreshment area. It's a perfect area for a group to begin their event with appetizers, announcements, etc. To me, the real appeal is on the upper deck. We went on a fairly breezy evening, but it was not too cold to enjoy the sights along the riverbank. Our cruise happened just before sunset, so we were able to snap spectacular shots of the sun setting on the Susquehanna. Priceless! Our cruise also had a DJ who took requests...so pretty soon a mini dance party / karaoke party was rocking the Pride's top level. The cruise lasted about 2 - 2.5 hours, but it could have gone on for another 2 hours! As we prepared to disembark, fireworks were set off on City Island (I think it was at the soccer stadium). Needless to say, it was the perfect ending to a delightful cruise.
Not particularly good for handicap challenged people. Getting to this venue was a challenge for people on walkers or who had mobility problems. Hilly! If you have a scooter ...ok....otherwise be advised that it will be challenging. They would be wise to have golf carts to escort passengers to and from their vehicles. A wise investment for them! I could not in clear conscience take another handicapped challenged person there!
