great place to take family and friends. Exhibits are easy to negotiate and change frequently. The staff are very friendly and always helpful as well. Recently took some kids who had nothing positive to say about the community on a walking tour and they came away with a new appreciation for their city and I even overheard a few asking their parents to take them back.

Quaint gallery with wonderful rotation of art. Very clean in Collage area of town easy to get to. Most Saturdays are FREE with other day a small charge or donation.

Over the Christmas holiday, we visited the Flint Institute of art, primarily for our grandchildren to see the special video art exhibition. That exhibit is excellent. While there, we also toured the permanent collection and found it to be very well done. The staff is particularly friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed a light lunch while at the FIA.

Go in and look at the lobby. It is the interesting part of the building. The staff is stuck up, and not very friendly or welcoming. I had the opportunity to meet with a couple of the people working the business side of this company as well, all with the same attitude. Two volunteers I came across were the most friendly and courteous, but of course we know vols do not get paid from arts funding.... Now as for the collection I will say its is rather dull. There are a few pieces here and there but overall a boring setup. Many others are far superior ex. st.louis etc... the pieces they chose to display are just lacking soo much, honestly just go into a hallmark store or borders and gain more culture. The plus side they have a decent size room for events and the cafe' is something. They will also cater to schools. They have classrooms and studios for some so that's a huge bonus.I not saying don't go considering other options around Flint, but don't get too excited. Always support the arts but this place needs staffing overhaul from the top down before people like me should consider donation grants

We check out the FIA on a regular basis as they bring in different exhibits several times a year. Currently featuring video games as art with a historical perspective as well. Very well done for both kids & adults.

FIA is not large but it is is first-class. The permanent collection covers a wide variety of art and includes several pieces I'd love to look at everyday.Parking is plentiful. Other cultural activities are next door. When I visited only the special exhibit had a fee; the regular galleries were free.

The FIA is a hidden jewel in Flint. The current exhibits are fantastic. Always a pleasure to go there.

Great, really enjoyed ourselves. Seniors looking for something to do. Hadn't been here before have lived in the area for 13 years, retired and looking for something to do. Refreshing, pleasant, learning experience. Great for any age.

Open 7 days a week and free on Saturdays, The Flint Institute of Arts truly has something for everyone. Located in the heart of Flint's cultural center, the museum exhibits and collections are hands down fantastic (2nd largest in Michigan). My personal favorite things about the FIA are the exhibits, the FOAM films & documentaries on Friday and Saturday nights, the Art School (one of the nations largest), the museum shop, the art rent/sales gallery, and oh yes Starbucks. Since my children are all grown up, I now have time to re-discovered how much I truly enjoy art classes. I highly recommend the pottery classes but they offer so many more. Please give the FIA a try, you won't be disappointed.

FIA offers some lovely permanent exhibits as well as interesting and varied temporary attractions with a wide range of appeal. Saturdays are free and can be a nice beginning for a day spent in Flint with easy access to the Farmers Market and downtown restaurants. This town is trying to make a come back and the FIA has been a long standing gem that is worth the visit.

A little gem in the heart of this resurgent small city. A perennial favorite, definitely work the visit.

Friday night was just going to be another night at home until my Dad called and asked if I wanted to see a movie at the FIA. "A touch of sin" was playing for a few nights. It was a Chinese film with subtitles. A very different type of movie about revenge for injustice. The FIA is a wonderful place to see movies. It is quiet, interesting and unique. The parking is easy. Security is there and the place is comfortable to walk around in. You never forget the man in the hall art, twice life size and so realistic. If you haven't been to the FIA, take some time this weekend to go see a movie. There is no popcorn, trailers or soda, so don't expect the regular theater experience. Just a comfortable chair and an interesting, usually independent film.

I didn't have nearly enough time to check out this building that's part of the Flint Cultural Center. The other educational and entertainment venues located here include Sloan Museum, Buick Automotive Gallery, Longway Planetarium, The Whiting, Flint Youth Theatre and Flint Institute of Music. We spent most of our time with the newest exhibition — Contemporary African American Art — and also meandering through the gift shop. I LOVE museum shops and the unusual gifts you can find. There's a $7 entrance fee for adults, but my friend has an annual membership, so we weren't charged. Be sure to check out the unique sculpture hanging high on the wall near the entrance to the current exhibition: a series of round loops that casts a unique box-shaped shadow.

Went to Flint Institute of Arts and was amazed. I grew up in the Flint area but had never been the F I A. It was a pleasant surprise. It's in the cultural center of Flint (YES Flint has a lot more to offer than violent statistics). The museum had a wonderful collection of Modern Art and the Renaissance collection was great too. The abstract art was really inspiring and the building is well designed. A must see when coming to Flint and the F I A make this Flint boy proud!
