I have played Bruce Hills several times over the span of 25 years and I have always found it challenging. There's plenty of water to contend with, but the fairways are wide enough and the greens are adequate. It makes for a pleasant day on the links. The pace here tends to be slow, but it's generally because the course fills up, which should tell you something. It's not the cheapest place to play, but it isn't unreasonable either. You shouldn't pay more than 40 to play 18 here, which isn't bad. You can find coupons online for better rates. Bruce Hills is listed on golfnow.com. I would play there again. I've found that most people who write bad reviews of golf courses generally had a bad experience and/or a bad round. I personally am not in any hurry when I go to play golf, I just try to enjoy the day out with family or friends. Bruce Hills is one way to have a nice day out, with family or friends, in nice Michigan sunshine. I will play there again. I recommend it.
This is a great course for down to earth medium skilled players. It's challenging but not extremely hard. I like it because it is not stuck up, you can wear shorts and a tee shirts, but is well maintained. Great to take my son and have a relaxing day.
My last review about a year ago was not favorable. I was literally dragged back here to play. Well, it is obvious that the management has spend time cleaning up the course. The greens are well maintained-some cup placements are very unreasonable. As long as you get out for an early round, the pace of play is good. However, once noon or so rolls around, it gets REAL SLOW! I just don't play Bruce Hills then. It's just not worth the time expenditure. The price is right, the scenery is pretty, the people are friendly. So after a yr away from the course, I go there often in the early morning.
Got an extra 6 hours? Well-everyone who is slow or just has a 100 handicap plays here. I wish they had a ranger to move folks along but no. They have made improvements the past couple of years but honestly I hate having to scrape goose poop out of my line. I tried once again to play here this year but quickly remembered why I have been avoiding it.
I like golfing at Bruce Hills because they are very friendly and accept feedback of all kinds without sticking their nose in the air. They are down to earth and provide the best service around. The course is always clean and free of lazy hazards that frequently plague other more expensive courses in the area. Highly recommended, great value play.
Maybe since I am not a great golfer, I love this course. There are plenty of hills & challenges, but the back & forth holes are the ones that give me hope when I am struggling! The owners and staff team are very nice & there is a cute little clubhouse where a Miller Lite sure tastes good "at the turn".The course used to be farmland & still has a bit of that feel, but again, Arnie Palmer, I'm not. This is a great course to get to get yourself back in the game. You won't be over-investing, but will still have some challenges, without losing a dozen golf balls in the process! In the summertime, the twilight rates are irresistible. Again, why overspend . . .If you are looking for championship level golf, you should look elsewhere. If you want to have not-taking-myself-too-seriously golf, this is your place.
Short 18 hole course but plenty of hazards bound. Don't expect "Up North" conditions, but don't expect expensive green fees. Greens also appears to be bent grass as it seems that the run with the sun....unusual for Michigan.....or maybe I just can't putt!
