Beautiful hike to the falls and out to the lake! Breath taking views! Been coming since I was a teenager!
Wonderful trails and boardwalks to most of the Falls. We only had time to view a couple of them but absolutely beautiful. We also got to see a couple deer in a grassy area between a couple of the falls.
Just go! It is fantastically beautiful - I went in the Fall and the colors, the waterfalls, amazing. Short walks for some, I did the longer loop, about 4 miles, I would rate it 'moderate' for difficulty because of the steepness and ruggedness. Awesome.
The waterfalls along the Presque River are each stunning in their own right -- we were only able to take in two of them, but plan on returning in order to see them all! Beautiful!!!!! And easily accessible for those able to do the stairs.
Lots of stairs up and down and winding trails but you are rewarded with three beautiful waterfalls and woods. Nice camping area along Lake Superior and a good picnic area when you need to take a break.
My husband and I returned here after ten years. He actually proposed to me here ten years ago, and I still found it as peaceful, lush and beautiful as I did back then. The waterfalls are breathtaking, and it is so fun to explore this area. Lake Superior is a little dirty here just because of the river flowing into it, but the views are still breathtaking.
The two lower falls were easy to get to but there were some stairs. We did the bridge hike to Presque Isle too and there were stairs but there were plenty of places to rest on the way up stairs. The falls were worth seeing. You could spend 1/2 hour to 3 hours here easily. Some people were sunning themselves on the East bank along the river. Don't wade in the river it is fast moving at many points. The upper falls is a hike from the lower falls. I would park at upper lot by ranger station and hike over unless you are in good shape. Rec passport required.
We did the east and west river hike as a short day hike and the views were wonderful. There are a series of waterfalls and bridges on each end. The bridge over the river at the mouth of Lake Superior is a wooden suspension bridge and interesting from an engineering perspective. If your idea of fun involves video games or electronics don't bother because you wouldn't understand
When you go to see these waterfalls, they are wonderful. Do not forget to take in the surrounding forest. It is truly one of the most beautiful and memorable walks of my life ... and I love to walk.
If you like waterfalls, you'll love the hiking trail at Presque Isle River trail. We spend nearly three hours hiking the trails and it didn't feel like that much time.
This was a great hiking experience. A wonderful waterfall easily accessed from the parking lot. There are a couple of parking lots. If you go to the furthest one north you don't have too far to walk. There are bathrooms there as well. There is the hike on the west side of the river that continues in a loop to the east side BUT the east side is quite a HIKE. Not for those out of shape at all. They told us it was two miles up and around but that east side is a lot of hills!! There is a bridge on to get back over on the end but on the south side you cross the bridge by the road. The river makes some wonderful waterfalls and it is very pretty. Definately worth the hike to see them. Also a path that goes to Lake Superior to see where it empties out. Nice place to walk out to visit. There were some people swimming in that area. Not the nicest beach around though. We visited the Visitors Center in the park first. They had good tips about getting around the whole park.
What a place to let the stress of city life just melt away. One hour here will completely reinvigorate you. Don't take my word for it come up and enjoy! We come here every year in the summer and Florida in the winter.
I love the 3 waterfalls and they are so accessible from the parking lot in just a 10 to 15 minute walk. This is a must see when visiting the park. These are at the extreme western end of the park and you will take South Boundary Road from the main park visitor center for about 30 minutes to reach them. A must see.
The trails were great! There's wooded areas along the river and then rocky areas by the falls and a beach area. Perfect place for a picnic. My friends and I loved this area of the park.
It had rained the last two nights so the river was really rocking! Almost all of the potholes were not visible because the water was rushing over them. Out favorite hike is after the bridge to the right. Walk down to were the path end and you cross the river. Even though the initial stream was flowing very quickly we could still cross without getting wet or having to jump over any water. The rock formations are terrific and the view of the stream from this side is impressive.
