My 4 year old absolutely loves this place! She could spent a whole day here. Most of the dolls and toys are out on display and they let the kids play with them. My daughter loves to take her doll and let her 'play' with everything in the store. The people who work there are friendly, helpful, and patient. The bistro is a wonderful experience for a little girl. They give you a special chair for your doll (and even have loaner dolls in case you don't have one). Your doll gets a plate and cup that you get to take home after your visit. The food is pretty good but the menu is limited. The prices are comparable to other sit down restaurants close by (Chili's, Pasta House, etc). For around $15 you can have your doll's ears pierced or her hair done too. We like to go during the day on a Monday or Tuesday so we have the store practically to ourselves.
Wow! Wow! Wow! How cool is this store! It's a girl's dream! Beautiful displays and decorations. Good customer service. Wonderful product! Absolutely loved tis store!
My twins really wanted to have their birthday party here. I was hesitant because of the cost but decided to do it since they were willing to cut their guest list way back. In the end, I'm glad I did it because the kids enjoyed it. However, I wouldn't volunteer it as an option unless your kid is really into American Girl. For the price, I wouldn't expect to have to do much, if any, work but that wasn't exactly the case. Since I was frustrated by the lack of information out there I've given you the low down below: Cost: $45/kid and $35/adult. There has to be at least one adult and you can't just not eat to save the $35 (I asked). That gets you 90 minutes in a private room, appetizers, dinner, cake & ice cream, a craft, and goodie bags. They will also send you invitations and thank you notes to use. See below about the "game" they mention.Service: The staff member is mainly there to serve the food and only helps a little with the craft. Ours was nice and handled the craziness of the kids well.Room: There is a separate room off of the dining room. If I had to guess, I'd say it's about 12' x 15' and is well decorated with a pink theme, carpet and a cute throne-like chair in the corner for the guest of honor. We had six girls plus me. We had enough room but I think it would be cramped if there were any more guests. Food: Each guest gets to choose an appetizer and their main course. The food was fairly good for kid-style food. They also serve cake and a little ice cream in a small glass with a faux flower in it which was a cute touch. They didn't offer us the leftover cake.Game: They advertise a self-directed game. That means the adult (not the AG staff) is in charge of it. You can use the set of conversation starters on the table or the game idea gift they give the Bday child. They are terrible!!! An example: Everyone shouts out numbers in order from 1-20. If two people shout out at the same time, start over. Luckily, I found this out before the party and had a couple of table games in mind to play. Keep in mind that the room isn't too large. They did pipe music in and the controls were in the room. That let us play some freeze dance. The staff member did finally pull out a set of huge dice that give you a person or animal and an action to pretend.Craft: I was told it changes from time to time. Ours was a reversible party skirt for the dolls that you weave a ribbon through. It required some adult help to get it started. I was very happy that our staff member helped me help the kids. It was good quality and a nice item to take home. You can see it in one of the pictures I uploaded.Goodie bags/Take aways: This is where this party shines. The B-day girl gets a paper crown and the game idea set in a hat box that I mentioned earlier. Each guest gets a mug and plate for her doll, a hair tie they use as a napkin ring, and a goodie bag. The goodie bags each contain a t-shirt, paper tiara, shopping bag and faux plastic balloon for the doll. They also contain a book and set of stickers for the girl. I've uploaded pictures of everything so you can see.Good luck!
Visited the store while in Saint Louis, the store is clean and the employees friendly and helpful. There is a large selection and well organized. Be prepared to walk around while the kiddo is picking out what they want.
We made reservations to take my mother for lunch while visiting St. Louis. We have been to other AG stores but she had not and I wanted her to experience it with her granddaughters. The Bistro is very small compared to other venues (Chicago, Atlanta) but enjoyable none the less.
Had a great experience! !!! My girls loved it. ...everyone was so friendly and helpful....my son hurt his hand in the door and they got him an ice pack and wanted to make sure he was ok....definitely going back
We visited the American Girl store while on a family vacation in St Louis. This store is very clean and organized, as well as possesses the nicest staff I have encountered at any store. The staff is very welcoming and curious about where you have traveled from, etc. They spoke directly to my daughter and helped us find things we were looking for in the store. This store is much smaller than the store in Minneapolis and doesn't have a full diner, but we weren't visiting to go to the diner, so it didn't bother us. I would definitely visit again!
While on vacation, we stumbled accross this store by accident. The staff here was so friendly and helpful and told us all about the various dolls and new products they have. We were even informed that each store has a shirt for your doll that indicates the city on it. What a great idea. We walked around the store for about an hour looking at each and every little thing and of course she wanted 1 of everything in the store. We did see the restaurant which was so adorable but did not dine in it since we has just eaten. We will certainly have to plan another trip just to dine here. We are looking forward to coming back to experience more. What a great mother daughter experience this store is...
Every once in awhile you find a perfect match between an employee and a store. If you are shopping for a Bitty Baby doll for your child, grandchild, or great-grandchild be sure to ask for Betty in the Bitty Baby department. She has been there since the first day the store opened and knows everything there is to know. Don't be put off by Betty's age. With age comes experience. Not only does Betty have the experience of working at the store for as long as it has been open, she has the experience that comes from having her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (her family serves as her own personal test market - she knows first hand what little girls love most in the store). Betty is fun, knowledgeable and very personable to work with. Her experience has helped me numerous times navigate the store and choose things my granddaughters have loved. She is my secret weapon when it comes to successful gift giving. She doesn't work everyday so call ahead and find out what days she works.
When we went to the American girl doll store before it was so crowed and we were so mad that they were sold out but if u reserve it you are better off
The staff at this store are amazing. They took our girls on a walking info tour of the dolls and different bios for each. The were nothing short of spectacular. You can tell these ladies are trained to work with little ladies and love their jobs. It was a great stop. We will definitely be back. BEST DEAL IN STORE: get your doll's hair re-done for approx. $10-20. They will also cut doll's hair, loose strands, etc. during this "salon visit". It only takes approx. 15-30 minutes for this process depending on how many other dolls are ahead of yours.
My 3-year-old daughter and I had a nice time looking at all of the dolls. The employee/visitor ratio is close to 1:1! Wish the Bistro was larger to accommodate more diners; they don't take reservations and it was going to be a two-hour wait on a Saturday afternoon for a table for 2.
The store is a must for any little fan of the American Girl Doll. Nice exhibits of special dolls, and friendly staff. It would be hard to walk out without something new for the doll. The cafe is too small for the number of visitors and the food is only "okay". But visiting the cafe does add a nice touch to the visit.
It would be one thing to have a doll store that sold quality goods, but American Girl is the classic example of Marketing and exploitation gone amok.Take your two young granddaughters to the store. They want a doll, The average price around $110 per. But wait, the doll has to have clothes and furniture, and life style items. What about a hairdo? Ill there is an emergency room.Hungry? How about luncheon in the tea room, complete with a seat and menu for the doll.Don't let that doll walk, how about a stroller or a bike.I think you get the idea. But wait, each child's adoptive doll is given a personal shopper in case grandpa doesn't see what is necessary to make the life style decision for the doll and the little girl.I cannot tell you how many small girls were dragged screaming and crying because single daddy or whomever was trying to provide something better for their kid than they had growing up, could not afford a $500.00 experience for a doll and accessories for their deprived child. When I brought my granddaughters in the store, I thought we would be buying super quality products, kind of like Madam Alexander dolls. Nope this Mattel outlet sells expensive crappy quality dolls and clothing.Rachel the poor Russian Jewish immigrant girl (now off the shelves because it has been 6 months) had to have Sabbath Candles, and 7 different experience books that told her life story. The books in themselves may have been valuable except they were just a few pages long and way more costly than a paper back.So unless you are into blowing a lot of money or disappointing a little girl, stay the hell away. If you are into living your life vicariously through you child or grand child go ahead, but expect to leave big bucks for minimal quality.
Family stopped in before heading home on long weekend trip. Neat over priced concept and store. Had lunch that tasted good, but portions were small. Kids loved every inch and every minute of it.
