The lodge is located on spring fed streams nestled in the rolling hills and cliffs of Missouri. Such wonderful views with miles of trout fishings streams. The fly fishing hère is second to none in the whole of North America. The lodge has a great resturant that will prepare your catch of the day and has an excellent menu, in additon to an old time diner. The lodge has a mix of places and settings to stay, hotel rooms with two double beds with rear doors that open for a short walk to the streams. Better are the cabins of all sizes located through out the park. I like the 3 bedroom next to waterfalls with a screened porch that looks out on the streams. The cabins are complete with living rooms, kitchens and dining areas. But the best of all are the condos with fireplaces and many with whirlpools. The lodge is a great value, yet the memories you take away will be priceless.

I hadn't been to Montauk for years and went down for a day of catch and release trout fishing in January, 2015. The setting was beautiful. I caught several good fish and saw several bald eagles. And...I had a great lunch at the café. Although we were just down for the day, I drove through the camp grounds and was impressed with how clean everything was. A great place to get away!

Went there to let the kids blow some steam off - once we got them away from the folks who were actually trying to fish... things improved all around. :)Great, clean facilities - playgrounds for the kids, friendly folks at the store/lodge/restaurant, and the kids were just amazed when they got to see the trout in the hatchery getting fed! (It was fun and pretty spectacular for the grown-ups to watch, too.)Love the Missouri State Parks - and this is another great one! We'll be back (and try not to disturb the anglers too much).

We stopped in at Montauk State Park a couple of times again this past weekend. It's the weekend before Halloween, so they were having their Haunted Grist Mill - Voices from the Past. The old grist mill was "haunted" by non-scarey ghosts that told the history and original operation of the mill and surrounding developments. They had three scheduled appearances allowing 80 attendees each show. We went to the last slot at 8:30 and they allowed a little over 100 in, because they didn't want to turn people away. It was a great show. Very informative, not scarey, and fun for kids and adults alike.During the daytime - the grounds were well kept and the trout fisherpersons seemed to be hauling in the limits of trout. We also saw a really nice 8 point whitetail deer at a nearly catastrophic closeness from our car.

Usually go twice a year. Once in March and again in October. Always a good experience. Facilities are good and relatively clean. I tent camp and the park is in excellent condition for this. Can get crowded on the river in some areas at times especially near the horn time. Have never hiked in the park, but have visited the hatchery and it's just Ok. Cell service in the park is non existent for some carriers. Everyone is friendly in the park and has a lot of regulars. Reserve a spot early!

I have always appreciated Missouri's many beautiful state parks and Montauk is certainly one of the good ones....especially if you like to fish. This well-stocked river (the Current River) and the well marked and maintained hiking trails are the primary attraction for me. We camped in travel trailer in Loop 4, which had wonderfully-spaced and level sites. The fire pit and the picnic table on a concrete slab was fine. Mostly we loved being able to see beautiful Fall trees, while sitting on the river bank, fishing or watching the folks wading through the water with their fishing poles. The bath houses were just okay, and definitely not very convenient. We stayed during the week (just before the rush of a big fishing tournament), so had lots of privacy and peace and quiet.

It has so much room and so many different types areas to fish. LOVE this place. Roaring River state park is 45 minutes from me. This park is 3 hours But well worth the drive. !! If you love to trout fish and want different types of waters this is the place for you. I rented what I thought was a 3 bedroom cabin. It is a house !! House is a little run down but perfect for fishermen or women whom just want a bed to sleep, a stove to cook and a super deck for watching wildlife.

As a solo cyclist I arrived there in thunder and lightening to be greeted by the bubbly and helpful Katy Holmer. She acceded to my request to put my little tent in the Picnic Shelter area and gave me directions and site information...plus a map of Missouri! The site has a useful General Store (Lodge) and wi-fi. Got a good night's sleep into the bargain as well. All for $13.

The park is spread out and very pretty. There is camping or a room at the lodge. The lodge has a restaurant and also a cafe area for quick snacks. The ice cream cones are hand dipped. There are cabins availabe as well. The trout fishing is pretty good. It was very crowded the weekend we were there. The camping area was at capacity. We did enjoy some nice fishing anyway and a quiet picnic spot. Its worth a stop. The head of the spring is worth the short walk. There are many walking trails as well.

Like to fish, think hiking is the thing, or do you just like to hang out? Montauk is your place. For one thing it is a great place to try out your skills as a trout fisherman or woman. You can also see how the trout are managed on the fishery side. The kids love to feed them. The Park has several options for your accomodations from hotel rooms, to cabins, to a beautiful campground. The restaurant and snack bar are great too. Besides being the jumping off point for the Current River float trips, you can also spend the day playing on the banks of the river right in the park. Fall is a beautiful time of year to hike the surrounding hills with the trees sporting fall colors and feeling a slight chill in the air. Come to Mantauk. You won't regret it.

Four of us had the Chicken & Dumbling special...had virtually no chicken in it (a few shreds, all together about 1/2 of the size of a AAA battery) and the dumblings tasted like paste. The salad bar was the only thing worth eating. What's with this place? Don't they care? The breakfasts are okay, but the dinners are terrible (unless you want a hamburger.)

We live close to Montauk State Park, so we go just to take in the beauty and peacefulness. Many people camp here. They have a fish hatchery, trails, RV sites, playgrounds, fishing, and a lodge for meals and fishing supplies.

Great Missouri state park that is worth the drive. Location is beautiful and campgrounds are well maintained. Numerous areas to fish from bank if you don't have waders. Sunday breakfast at the Lodge is pretty good and reasonably priced. There's a few short trails to add to the adventure. Downfall...not much nearby so great to get-away but not if you enjoy lots of attractions.

Foulest odors. Stayed in the small duplex cabins. They are a small tight cramped room. Then, the larger 4 plex cabins that are very spacious and have a separate bedroom with a murphy bed in the living room. Montauk, please, tear out the 70's carpets and replace! Had my stomach turning. The duplex cabin was so cute on the outside, but, was 1950 on the inside... the original floor coverings and furnishings may be from 1950's? And, the mildew and fish smell hits you like a brick wall when you enter. They had the air unit running even though it was a comfortable temperature outside and we knew exactly why. The windows would not open no matter what . Phew! The bathroom is old, but, was cleaned, though, impossible to ever make it sterile, The bathroom linoleum was 1950's or was in such bad condition it just looked like great grandmas back porch----beige and peeling and moldy and stunk like mildew. The fish smell we determined was the saturated carpet that looked as old as the peeling linoleum. The curtains, lamps, bedside table, etc....all circa 1950. But, not quaint in any stretch of the imagination. Beds were soft, mushy and uncomfortable and stunk like an old ....4 plex cabin was a boost up to the 1970's. Awesome! We though we had won the lottery at first glance. But, the grossness set in quickly. The orange countertop peeling and just sorrowful. The bathroom, also, super old to where it is impossible to be sanitary. The hallway in the cabin reeked and it was terrible to pass through (your only escape from the cabin by the way) and you can't hold your breath while lugging things up and down the stairs so had to smell it every time. Smelled like sour vomited wine soaked into the carpeting. I would not want to see what is in these carpets with a microscope or even look with naked eyes. Yikes. The beds did not stink and were comfortable and may have been updated or at least mattresses were replaced recently. The only plus is there are no bugs seen in the cabin.Only give rating a 2 because of the park.
