We stopped in the Cuba, Missouri tourist info place to get a state map. We spoke to a lovely woman who told us about the murals in Cuba and how if we continued down the old Route 66 we would come to the Fanning trading post and the largest rocker in the world. Why not? We enjoyed the murals and got some great photos of it as well as beside the large Route 66 sign out front. We did go through the store which has all sorts of Route 66 items to buy. They sell flavoured moonshine that is 40 proof. I bought my son a guitar pick that said "I bought my pick on Route 66" It was very easy to get back onto the interstate and we were glad we took the side trip.
Giant rocking chair was a neat site. Fun little gift shop with friendly staff. Definitely worth the stop if it's on your way, but nothing that I would make a huge detour for.
A gift shop next to the World's Largest Rocking Chair. A must see just 5 miles west of Cuba on Old Route 66.
A very neat place to stop and check out!! Several souvenirs to choose from if you are a shopper. A gorgeous corner rock fireplace! An indoor archery range! A stuffed bear standing tall to take pictures with! Flavored moonshine samples!
Really enjoyed having our photo taken with the bear and nosing around the gift shop. Absolutely loved the rocking chair - it's one of a kind. If you're on route 66 stop and have a look. Lovely :)
Nice stop along Rt 66. Stopped to see the rocking chair and went into the Trading Post. Lots of Rt 66 souveniers. Very nice clean and well organized shop. Also has an archery range in the rear of the building.
A controversy is brewing, this worlds biggest rocking chair is getting a competitor in Casey Illinois. I go with this classic. Enjoy the general store with a Missouri moonshine tasting thrown in.
I bought some postcards for my road trip scrapbook here. They have various Route 66 memorabilia for collectors.
What a great place! A stop on our Route 66 trip and definitely worthwhile. The rocking chair is unique and a great photo opportunity. The staff were also great and very friendly. The store is also nice and sells some fantastic and unique bits. Definitely worth stopping if you're passing.
The worlds biggest rocking chair, what's not to like! A fab road side attraction worth a visit, and a well stocked gift shop. A must stop on Route 66.
Houston, we have a problem. I just returned from a 4000 mile plus road trip that took me past Casey, Illinois. They are building the World’s Largest Rocking Chair. The rocker bottoms are built just across from the World’s Largest Windchime. Cuba might have to build the World’s Largest Sharpie to add 2nd to World’s Largest Rocking Chair on all those signs and souvenirs. In the meantime, the CURRENT world’s largest rocking chair is in Cuba. Just one thing: You can’t sit in it. You may have come across pictures with people sitting in the chair. Not going to happen unless you BYOC (bring your own crane). Cuba is thinking about building the World’s Largest Picnic Table. They should consult with Casey, Illinois first. Maybe, Cuba could place the World’s Largest Rocking Chair on top of the World’s Largest Picnic Table. That might work.
Fanning 66 Outpost is an unusual place. A combination of Rt. 66 nostalgia, the world's largest rocking chair and a superb arhery shop, this place has something for everyone. Grab Coke and a photo of the rocking chair, or stay a long while and enjoy the ambiance of some true Ozark hospitality. Teh foks there are greast.
Stopped here for pics of rocking chair early in the morning, but the stop turned out to be much more than that. At the back they have a hunting store with stuffed brown and black bears and archery range. From european point of view this seemed strange, but that's the best part of travelling! We got to try out archery and immediately liked it. Real fun unexpected stop. Venture inside, don't just take a pic of rocking chair! And of course lovely, friendly couple who run the place are well worth meeting.
As you may have noticed, Route 66 seems to attract giant everythings! This time it is the worlds’ largest rocking chair. Again, a photo op that is right alongside the road and takes just a moment to catch. Not that you would be able to reach the seat...I tried...but no climbing!
The little shop here is great, but the worlds largest rocking chair is simply awesome, worth the quick stop off I-44 and go see, lots of route 66 history, the old signs, just a great place to soak in some history!!
