This is my favorite walking trail in Springfield. It's tree covered and has a nice, clear trail. It's just long enough to feel like I've gotten a good workout but not too long to feel like I should have packed a bag. There are designated running hours which is nice. However, a lot of people don't respect the set hours and just run anyway. It's just narrow enough of a trail that it's inconvenient to be stepping into the brush so runners can get by. But that's the only downside.Do visit this beautiful place. You won't regret it!
it has great walking trails where you can have a peaceful calming walk and smell the flowers and see the little animals in there natural habitat. they also have programs for little kids or those who are just a kid at heart
This place is a great way to get away from it all. The trails are beautiful, the scenery is memorable and unspoiled and the wildlife is abundant. Take your family and friends for a nice day of enjoying Springfield's beautiful outdoors.
Nestled in the south side of Springfield, MO is a well kept secret. This Springfield Conservation Nature Center is this wonderful and wonder-filled place to take a hike to observe nature. The nature center itself is on the shores of Springfield Lake, so water birds and wildlife abound. At various times of year you can see deer, geese, ducks, eagles, pelicans and other migrating birds. There are several trails to hike and a center where qualified personnel can tell you all about what you will see. Classes and seminars are held for instructional purposes as well.
I like this place because it is free! Enjoyed all of the trails thru the woods, meadows, and by the creeks. You will see birds, fish, turtles and if you walk quietly and watchfully probably a deer or two. Be sure to see the display inside the center. Children are fascinated with live and hands on displays. You will want to go back.
We love going here to enjoy the outdoors, there are several trails to walk and wildlife to enjoy, we especially like seeing the deer. A workout plus a view!
We spotted an Eagle several years ago. Walking trails of all ratings. Small bird-watching area is really well done. It's indoors with all the sheets with photos of what you may see, and right on the other side of the glass are many feeders. From birds to squirrels to rabbits. Very educational. I usually go at sunrise and get a nice 1 mile walk. Be sure to look at the directions as you might had difficulty finding it the first time you go.
Hills and dirt (as well as paved) trails; river water along the trail, and regular sights of deer, turkeys, cardinals, turtles- all make it enjoyable.
Easy parking, different paths to take, and paths are well marked. A nice place to go for a walk where you aren't too far from a bathroom and civilization.
Great trails. the trees are amazing this time of year. lots of things for kids to explore inside and out
We had a handicap traveler with us, and the place had nothing much within a short level stroll. We went to take photos, and besides the parking lot we saw nothing to get out of the car to photograph.
The trails are beautiful, and the Center is one of the best I've ever been to! There are many exhibits that will appeal to all ages, and it's free!
This was an amazing place to have a great time in the outdoors. The Center offers a variety of walking trails that take you through the forest and you can see all kinds of animals such as birds, beavers, deer, and squirrels. They are up to all kinds of mischief and it is wonderful to watch them. The trails are well marked and the animals are not shy around humans. If you respect them they will respect you. I loved this place as they had bridges, tall trees and shady paths. It is wonderful for everyone. You should not come to Springfield without going to see this Center. It is beautiful!
The walking trails are nice through the woods and pleasant despite the constant noise from the Interstate highway. It sounds awful to say highway noise, but I saw birds, squirrels, a deer, and only a few walkers. The trails were either paved or dirt or rocky depending on which loop you took. The visitor center is very nice and expansive with many exhibits. The trails and center would all be great for children, older folks, families, or the casual jogger looking for a few mild hills and dark forests. I will now make this a regular stop when I am in town.
Not hugely publicized, but we were taken here by a local. Easy to get to, easy parking, great place for all ages. There are several trails. We too took the Long Trail, about 2 miles or so. Lots of smaller trails for the less ambitious. Hike is not strenuous. Some dirt trails, some rocks, some wooden bridges. Free. Lots of beautiful scenery, birds, fish, frogs and butterflies. Inside the Visitor Center there are displays and information. Helpful staff too. Looking for some activity in Springfield, definitely come to the Nature Center.
