Wonderful opportunity for students to learn of Mississippi writers.Library was easy access with nearby parking.
If you're a writer, fan of Southern writers or Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, the Greenville Writer's Exhibit in the downtown Greenville library is a must see if you are in the area. The self-guided tour begins by reading the state information marker on the sidewalk. The upstairs exhibit, housed in a long display case, tells the story of how Greenville has attacted so many famous writers -- from Walker Percy to Shelby Foote to Hodding Carter to Angela Jackson and more. Photos, manuscripts and books are on display with quotes from the many famous writers. The exhibit also includes a bust of Hodding Carter. Behind the display case is a scholarly research library with antique Victorian bookcases filled with beautiful books. Depending on your interest level, visiting the exhibit can take thirty minutes to an hour. It's not for kids, though. It appeals to those who love literature. We were fortunate to also view an excellent traveling photo exhibit from Delta State entitled www.thisdelta.com while we were there. This speaks highly of the library's acquisition resources. The staff was friendly and helpful. The visit to the library was a highlight of our short stay in Greenville -- we were just passing through and stopped. This exhibit made Greenville memorable for us.
