We got a Groupon deal for lunch expecting a tasting with it which it did not come with. We were disappointed and opted instead to purchase a glass of wine each and receive our lunch and tour. The lunch BLEW US AWAY. We expected basic sandwiches and side salads or something of the sort but we received artfully prepared sandwiches (the turkey was SO GOOD) with gourmet cheese, a delicious side salad with walnuts and some sort of cheese crumble, followed by a decadent dessert of ice cream with hot berries and chocolate drizzles, and finally a truffle each to end. PERFECT antidote to a cold rainy day. We received our tour from one of the employees (of 10-12 years if I recall!) rather than the specialist, but it was still terrific and filled with interesting information about the vineyard. For the lunch, view, and great glasses of wine it was worth the visit though it would have been PERFECT with a tasting included! Would come again.

If you enjoy fine wines, this is a must! Their wines remind me of the small family-owned vineyards in France that are often much better than the big labels. Beautiful setting, delicious wines, crepes on certain Sundays (check their website for details) and friendly staff.

If you can finally make it to this place you will find it worth the trip. This is a beautiful facility tucked away in the hillside. The tasting room is spacious and there is plenty of room outside to enjoy the sun and view. We found some of the wines rather remarkable. I rarely purchase a Merlot but found theirs exceptional. Highly recommended.

The winery is tucked into a little mountainous area, full of vines on steep hills with green mountains in the background. The wedding took place in the vineyards, then a reception took place in a cabin-like space up on a hill. It was absolutely beautiful. Then, we all went down to the winery and had dinner. It was a nice, modern space with a big tent, fountains, and tasty food.

We attended a wedding at Delfosse last weekend. It was a beautiful setting and gorgeous weather. The location is way off the main roads, but worth the trip. The ceremony was up on the hill overlooking the vineyards just as the sun was setting.Their wines were quite good ( not CA good, but VA good) and the catering setup was terrific. The staff were all very pleasant and competent. This is a perfect place for a fall afternoon get away.

Our tasting guide was very personable and knowledgable about the wines, the vineyard and the area. We ordered an exquisite plate of a variety of fruits, locally crafted cheeses with sopressata, hard salami, prosciutto and fresh, warm, crusty bread. This paired nicely with the wines, from white to red. We left with a box of wines our friends enjoyed when we returned home. Don't miss this beautiful place with a delightful selection of wines, including the first Virginia Malbec I've had.

We did not have any plans to go out last Sunday, and after a quick search of things to do nearby Richmond I found this place, a little bit skeptical while driving there, but we were very surprised once we saw the beautiful view and facilities. Friendly staff, good crepes, good music and good wines saved our weekend.on the low side, we saw some bugs inside the dining area especially on the tables closed to the windows.

But don't expect them to advertise that small fact!!!We showed up at the winery about 4:40 on a Saturday afternoon, on a day that their website says they are open till 5:30 (last tasting at 5pm). There were several other people down in the tasting room, and you could tell that further up the hill there was some preparations for some event (turned out to be a wedding). But even after we found the place, there were NO signs informing potential customers that they were closing early. We parked walked into the winery past two tables of folks sitting and sipping and visiting and up to the tasting bar. The lady behind the counter was counting money like she had just robbed a bank, looked at us twice, before my husband asked her if we could do a tasting. That's when she looked up, sighed and said, "We HAD to close a little bit early today." We were shocked and pointed out that there were no signs or anything, and basically got no reply. Frankly, she acted like she couldn't care less whether we got a chance to sample their wine or not.So, obviously, this is NOT a place we would recommend going to.....unless you're going to be the first one there, and even then, they might HAVE to 'open late'!!!Go somewhere else.....there are many other wineries in the area that are MUCH better.

This is a picturesque winery making high quality wines with a french owner (Mr. DelFosse) who likes to hang out with guests and imbibe his wines. All cute, except anyone that knows the french knows that they can run hot and cold, and often display a touch of eletism. In any event, the winery mis-represents the terms of membership in its wine club. You MUST fulfill a one year committment first and only then can you cancel at any time. Given high shipping costs, you may wish to think twice about joining the "free, no obligation" club.

My family and I recently visited DelFosse on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The grounds are stunning, and the tasting room was beautiful. We arrived about thirty minutes before closing, but they were kind enough to serve us the full flight for $10 (which is a bargain compared to the other local wineries serving only five wines for $10). The white wines were pretty good, but the reds were great. We ended up spending a lot of time talking to the owner - which we really enjoyed. The reds were so good that each of us bought a different varietal to take home. This is a must-visit winery in the Charlottesville area. Note: There is a beautiful log cabin on the property that you can rent!

Way, way out there. I think we went the wrong way, and drove on a gravel road for about 6 miles (the GPS took us out a different way, on a paved road), so you might check that before you take off. I thought the wines were okay, but nothing spectacular. However, the facilities are very nice. Once you come out of the "woods" while driving there, the building & grounds are very cool. Would be a good place to meet up with friends for a picnic, or to do a reunion or something.

The advertisement of another crepe day brought myself and a couple friends to the winery. One friend enjoyed a caprese salad crepe followed by the banana and nutella crepe for dessert. My other friend had the spicy sausage crepe and an apple crumble crepe for dessert. Myself, I enjoyed a grilled chicken crepe and a classic french style for dessert. We washed everything down with a glass of their wonderful white blend, Reserve D'Oriane and a bottle of Deer Rock White to share. Our server Deb was fantastic, the food delicious and served quickly. The tasting room manager Yvette even stopped by our table (as well as others) to ask how we were doing and chat about the winery.I definately, once again, recommend this winery!

We were there for crapes and grapes. They have a lovely dining facility along with the tasting area and there are nice views of the mountains and the pond. Cabin on the top of the hill looked charming as well.

We have visitied many of the wineries in the area and this is, by far, our favorite. They have the best selection of wines. There is a fee for tasting, but they will waive it if you join their wine club (discounts on wine and you sign up to receive/pick up one shipment per quarter for one year). And not only are their wines delicious, but they may just have the best cheese plate on the planet. The facility is clean and nice. Service is also great.

My wife and I have now been to DelFosse several times and have developed a fondness for the winery, the setting, and the staff. Most recently we attended a wine pairing lunch featuring duck l'orange as the main course. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. The 2007 merlot is excellent, and the Sauvignon blanc was quite good as well. The winery is located about a half hour south of Charlottesville, but it is well worth the drive down 29. Certainly worth the time if you're out exploring wineries in the region.
