Like going for short hikes on the trails, they are well maintained yet looking natural. There are good views of the lake from the trails and a few stops to rest. There is a small island on the lake where a wide variety of birds congregate at different times of the year. The picnic areas are mostly under the shade of trees. The canoes and boats are reasonably priced. There is a ferry's wheel. Unfortunately there is a lot of man-made debris that accumulate on the lake shore nearest to the entrance.
I love coming here. The environment is "tranquil." The hiking trails are awesome, the lake is just peaceful.
This park is a great place to go for bikers, walkers, and runners alike. I love going to this park to run around the trails, it's beautiful and very relaxing. Personally, I prefer Burke lake which is about 20mins away from this park but they are both very nice.
A stream valley park with a trail that loops around Lake Accotink and includes part of the cross county trail. Has a family area with a beautfully maintained carosal, miniature golf, dock, paddle boat and kayak rental and a snack bar. Once a month during the summer, a band will play in the evening.ČI like this park for the single track mountain biking. Mountain bike trails weave between the railroad and the foot/bike trail (a civil war railroad bed) between the Danbury Forest tot lot and the dam. The trail that loops the lake is wide, suitable for a baby stroller and you will see joggers, walkers and bikers on the trail. You can usually see herons and turtles in the lake and Accotink steam. Fishermen come in April for the stocked trout. Look for marsh marigolds in early spring and bluebells in April near the footbridge over the creek between Danbury Forest and Braddock road.
This is a lovely park for taking long walks and medium long hikes. There are trails/bike paths that are paved or leveled and finished with gravel. There are smaller trails that wind back through the woods. It also is good for biking. The lake is very pretty, and there are nicely developed picnic areas.
My office recently had our 2nd annual pig roast here and it was great! The large pavilion that we reserved had restrooms and was covered which could save your event although we didn't need that. There is a lake, marina, mini-golf, and other activities at the park. It's surprising that this park is so close to the city. You don't feel like it when you are there. It's very beautiful and tranquil.
Close to town, good walking trains, boat rentals, and free entrance. If you want to take the kids out for a day, it's great. I wouldn't drive for hours to get there as it isn't worth the trip. But for a local park its good for a day's outing.
We were married yesterday at Lake Accotink. The Park Service Rangers and workers were very helpful and accommodating. After the service and while the caterers were setting up, guests took walks, played mini-golf, played on the beach and road the merry-go-round. It was a perfect day and it appeared that everyone had a great time. Thank you.
Hiking trails are great fun, but the rest of the part leaves much to be desired. It always seems to be messy and out of sorts. It is a public park, so I can't expect it to be the Shangri la of parks. I would not dare go into the water, let alone let my dog drink out of it. I continuously see dead fish floating, which scares me. Hoping this year they've clean it up a bit.
There's nothing wrong with this park. If you live in Springfield or Burke it's a nice enough community park with a pretty lake, picnic area, carousel and running/biking trails. I used to work near this park and would come to walk during my lunch break. My only concern was that the park was relatively empty at this time and sometimes I wondered if I should really be walking on my own in a relatively empty park. That said, nothing ever happened and I'm sure it was just my imagination being over active! I rate this park average because I feel like nearby Burke Lake is much nicer and dynamic. For some reason, it was usually gray and cloudy when I'd come to walk here, but I just don't get all the warm and fuzzy feelings I get when I think of Burke Lake. But if you live in the neighborhood, the park offers more than enough in the way of trails and nature. I've even seen a few herons here!
Nice little park for children of all ages. Pretty lake with boats to rent. Nice play ground and a Merry-go-round.
I lived near this park for about 3 years. It is my place to go running, and the trails allowed me to go several miles and to loop around the park for longer runs. The mixed improved/unimproved trails around the park get quite wet/muddy after the rain but are passable. The marina and play areas are ok, my 4-5 year old enjoyed them. I would say it is a good time, but it is close to Burke lake, which overall has nicer facilities but can be more crowded and which charges a fee on weekends. Check both out if you are in the area.
Nice quiet area for a run, walk, hike around the lake. Haven't used the facilities yet, so I can't rate them.
Open year-round, Lake Accotink has many additional attractions available in the warmer months. A working antique carousel, boat rentals, miniature golf, classes/activities (sponsored by Fairfax County) for all ages, and several dog-friendly events.Aside from that, there are several well-maintained trails within the Park, that are available to walkers and bikers throughout the year ... free of charge. However, be advised that this IS a dog-friendly Park AND neighborhood. All leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome accompanied by their people. Folks who are allergic to or not comfortable around dogs might want to choose another Park to visit. This is a wonderful place to just wander around, listen to the birds and enjoy the view any day. June though August there are free concerts, Friday evenings, at the Large Pavilion. Open grills and picnic tables are available, year-round, free of charge. Covered pavilions, with tables and grills are also available for rent by advance reservation, only.Free parking, except during Springfield Days' Cardboard Boat event. Open till dusk year-round.
Carousel is fun for small children. There's a putt-putt course integrated with the carousel too.Lake Accotink is a small lake but you can rent a canoe or row boat or a paddle boat.It has a nice roughly 3.5 mile trail around the lake. Part of the trail leaves the park and you have to up the sidewalk past an elementary school and then back to the trail but it's a good trail. It's a good bike ride. There are other trails too if you want to go far.
