That said, this was not my boyfriend and I's favorite wine. My brother in law loves red wine and they seemed to have more of that variety than in the white wines, but we still managed to find a bottle. I loved the grazing platter at $20. This was a perfect stop to hold us over for a few hours until dinner. We ordered two platters for four people and it was more than enough, we probably would have been fine with just one. The variety on the platter was impressive. More than cheese and crackers, it had hummus and red pepper, olives, pita, tamales and a few other goodies. It was perfect. The wine tasting was cheap for $5 with 9-10 wines to sample. Granted that did not include a glass to take home. The grounds are beautiful and there is a bocce ball court. Although the wines were not our favorite, it was worth a stop.

We stopped in on Saturday. Enjoyed the wine tasting very much. Only $5!!!!! What a deal!!! The wines vary - as do all such places - but a couple impressed enough that we left with two bottles! This is just a little north of Mabry Mill and, as I said - a nice stop.

We had an amazing tasting and grazing plate at the winery over the weekend. The wines were very good, but the atmosphere was AMAZING. My husband and I sat by the vineyards and enjoyed the music and beautiful mountain weather. Definitely worth the beautiful drive and we will be returning!

Love the intimate wine tasting with friends. A lovely bottle of wine, a cheese platter paired with live music was nothing short of perfection! Throw in the beautiful mountain back drop against the Villa and you feel you are close to Heaven! Thank you for the experience! We will be back! (and we will be ordering more wine from your winery!!!)

The winery is located about one hour from Roanoke, Virginia. I travelled here with family. It is a very scenic location in the mountains. The wine tasting was $5 per person and included 9-10 different wines. The patio area is a great spot to enjoy a bottle of wine after the tasting. Definitely worth a stop if in the area.

VIsited the Winery in May. Not sure if I would return. WIne was not bad, a little dry for my taste. When we first arrived, I felt like we wee bothering the gentleman pouring our tasting. He did warm up after a bit, though. If you like drier wine and not the variety that, say, Chateau Morrisette has, then you should like Villa's Wine.

The property is just beautiful, the wine is mostly really delicious, and the owner who poured us our tasting gave us some great history behind each bottle, it was superb!

Be sure to use a GPS or map to find the place. Once you are there, it is an unpretentious and relaxed place, where usually the owners are offering wine tasting. The wines are among the best of the East Coast, and are from unique grapes like Sangiovese, Primitivo.

Great Italian-style wines from a small winery. The hosts are very knowledgeable and helpful. Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Small nicely done wine tasting experience. Pleasant atmosphere - good, reasonable wines. Much more enjoyable than the larger winery up the road.

We love finding new places for wine tastings. But this winery left a bad impression on us. When we walked in, an employee was sweeping the porch and didn't pay us any attention. We stood at the tasting room for over 5 minutes without anyone coming to greet or assist us. The lady who had been sweeping finally came in and said that she would be with us in a moment and added if she didnt do the sweeping it wouldn't get done. (It seems like that should have been done before they opened for business). Then she disappeared again for a few minutes. We were about to walk out when she came back and began telling us about the winery, but then she had us wait as more customers arrived. She then started her talk all over again. The other group pulled up chairs to sit on during the talk and the employee was very gruff in telling them that they could not legally sit for a tasting. She was flustered and started the talk all over again. We left after only a few tastings as her personality was not warm enough to keep us interested. The wines were good, but we won't be back.

This is a must stop if you are wine tasting in the area. The wine is very good - not your typical Virginia wines - labeled as Italian style but not really - not quite as robust but very very good. While we were there they had an acoustic guitar player - Don? - who was very good and had a nice lunch with bread, olives, salami and cheese. Don't pass this place up!

We sought out this stop because of the dry wines (unusual in North Carolina) and we were not disappointed. The flavors were great and we bought some to bring home. We visited on a Friday afternoon and the winery wasn't really set up for guests so we got a "bare-bones", somewhat rushed experience. However, the owner was very forthright with opinions which made for an interesting experience. They probably have more amenities on the weekend.

Appalachia Winery is a lovely gem tucked into a "holler" off the Blue Ridge Parkway, close to Floyd, VA. Wines are made in the Italian fashion and they do both reds and whites you won't find just anywhere. I admit to being a white wine drinker, but found myself liking the reds as well during our most recent trip. Try this, really. I think you might like it.

Unfortunately, it was so foggy the day we visited that we couldn't really see the grounds. But you could tell when you walked into the winery that it's a neat place. And then to hear that they serve brick oven pizza in the summers....I'm sold. The wine is okay, so that's not what will bring me back. But I bet it's much better with the pizza! If you're going to be up here to visit Chateau Morrisette, you may as well drive the additional mile to hit this place as well.
