If you are interested in The Civil War and in particular The Battle of Cedar Creek this is probably the best place to visit in the area. Be sure to see the diorama and the book collection. The battlefield, historic park and Belle Grove are across the street.

Attended the 150th of Cedar creek. NPS offered a shuttle tour of special sections of the battlefield. The guide explained that they are still in the process of getting this Visitor Center up to standards. It was OK but needs some work.

The 150th anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek is October 19, 2014. Visit the battlefield October 17 - 20, 2014 and learn about the last great battle of the US Civil War. The battlefield, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is much as it was when Lt. General Jubal Early and Maj. General Philip Sheridan faced each other. It is the only documented site where the Union and Confederacy won and lost on the same day. Join NPS Rangers as they give tours of the battlefield, tour infantry camps and visit with re-enactors, view battle reenactments or listen to presentations from Civil War Historians. You can also gather with descendants of the soldiers of the battle. For further information, please visit: www.ccbf.us

The visitors center is in a semi abandoned small old strip mall. Signage is poor and it was hard to tell what it was. I bet they didn't have 10 visitors all day and they had two park rangers working there. They were very polite and knowledgable. The exhibit is mediocre, but they do have an excellent lit up battle board. This really helped give you an over all feel for the pivotal battle of the Shenandoah. Over all the combination of the Strasbourg museum, Middleton visitors center and other cites close by, gives you a good feel for what happened there.

We got a good introduction to the battle from a volunteer docent. There was also an interesting video with a lite map of the battle. other interesting dispalys too.

The museum is excellent, and well worth paying for. If you're really into Civil War military history see the 45 minute film that's part of the museum admission. Large mural about the battle, plus many other displays.

If you are interested in the Civil War or have ancestors that fought at Cedar Creek, like me, Cedar Creek is the place you have to be. I went to the visitor's center in July 2012 and learned so much. If gave me a new appreciation of what my great-grandfather lived through. My son and I returned in October for the reenactment and we were blown away. It was fantastic. I hope to take my grandchildren there next year.
