I happen to be in the Shenandoah Valley for this event. Check their schedule online, as they have the fair 6 times a year. Loads of books, and other items, in two different warehouses, one of which is two story. I really wanted/needed something on wheels, just due to the amount of books I picked up. One warehouse alone had children's books and cookbooks! As an example, I purchased two books for my very young grandson for $2.99 each, the books that have the sounds to go along with the story. I got two slow cooker cook books for $4.99 each. I almost forgot I picked up "The Polar Express" for $6.99! OK, enough said. If you love books, plan to visit and then mail your purchases back using the "media" rate at the Post Office and save $!

We have been going to the Green Valley Book Fair for many years and have never left without several great deals! They are located a little bit out of the way, in a beautiful country setting, yet only about a 10 minute drive from the interstate. They have 2 large buildings, one of which is 3 floors. The buildings are connected by an interior hallway, so no going out in the rain or snow or cold to get from one to the other. In spite of all the interior space, we have been to some of their openings where they have had so many books, they actually had a tent outside next to the buildings which was also full of books. There is plenty of parking here and it is free. Although they seldom have the most current best sellers, they have a terrific selection of recent (maybe a year old) and older books in every category you can think of. And really what do you expect when you're getting brand new, not used, books for as little as $4 or $5 for a hardback version. If you are a committed cook, you would probably enjoy the huge variety of cook books they always have! There are books here for every taste and every age group and sometimes even books on tape. The drawback here is, of course, that they only open 7 or 8 times a year for 2 or 3 weeks and they not open very late. You can find their schedule at their website, www.gvbookfair.com and sign up for e-mail alerts about when the next opening will be. They also have a Facebook page and I have seen them answer questions on there from customers asking about the availability of certain books they are looking for, so they do try to be as accommodating as possible. We just love to browse, because you never know what kind of little gem you will find here. I recommend you allow at least 1-2 hours for browsing their selections. Green Valley Book Fair is well worth the drive if you are book lovers like us.

A definite stop for anyone looking for value in books. Most books are not current bestsellers, but there is a little bit of everything. The best section is kids books. Good variety and really good prices.

Heard about this outlet that opens occasionally during the year for weeks at a time, and finally visited. Oh my, even in this digital age, how could you not be tempted if a book lover? Too bad there's not a search database (but understandably so given the temporary nature of the huge inventory). Two buildings with an interior connecting hall make it easy to shop. Great selection of cookbooks, children's books, as well as fiction and non-fiction. I picked up hostess gift books and even a game set. I bought two bags worth of books, maybe 12-14 items for under $40.Have to admit I'm going back this week for a second visit before they close on Sunday. Only 1.5 hrs from Wintergreen Resort, a bit less from Charlottesville. A couple of miles off the I-81 exit, but good enough signs to take you directly to this country-side location easily.

I first started attending the book fair over 20 years ago, and recently went back after probably 10 years. It's the same as ever- sprawling, super cheap and well-organized. They always have a good selection of books, especially classics, fiction, cooking, history and kids books. There are also areas for reference, science fiction, parenting, pets, science (including dirt cheap field guides), outdoor activities (hiking, biking, camping guides though the selection skews toward faraway places like Washington state). There are also sections for LGBT, and now manga and graphic novels. If you show up in the morning on the first day of any of the 3-week sessions scheduled, you'll get the best selection. Many times, I've come then and got the only copy or only one of 2 copies of coveted cookbooks or other tomes. They offer tax-free programs for libraries and schools, so if you administer a library, you can really get in and find some deals for your students.

Great place to browse for books at a great price. Easy to find. Fun just to browse and spend an hour or so.

I had heard rave reviews about this place from a fellow teacher who was originally from Virginia. I happened to be visiting family in MD, so, book lovers that we are, we decided on a road trip to see the place for ourselves. You need to know up front that this is not a 'store' in the sense that there are only certain weeks of the year when it is open. Also, the books appear to be overstock, so there are many copies of one book by an author, or in a series, but none of the others. So, if you have your heart set on a certain title, you're taking a chance. The prices, however, are very low. For example, Nancy Farmer's 'The Lord of Opium' in hardcover was $4.50, considerably less than online or in stores, and Christopher Hitchens' book 'Mortality' was $6.00 in hardcover. The book fair had the largest selection of religious and politically right-leaning titles I have seen anywhere, so I guess that's their demographic. So, if you live in or are visiting the area, by all means go. If not, go for books on the used market through the online sellers.

It is more than a publisher's discount place. You can get some current titles as well as classics. The books are categorized well, but I found it best to just walk up each aisle of interest and look. Of interest to genealogists will be the family history section. There are some family histories listed alphabetically. The staff is very helpful. I spoke with one staff member who said this was the first year they expanded the dates to longer than just the three weeks they did in the past.

We have visited the book fair twice and have been very happy each time. If you visit, just know that each round of book fairs are completely different inventory and if you don't like it this time, try it again in a few months. Also try going at the beginning as the selection is the best. The deals on books just can't be beat!

This is a great find! I got Christmas presents, books for myself, and had a nice time browsing through the books. It's probably best to go with an open mind rather than looking for a specific book but I stocked up for dirt cheap!

Located in the geographic center of nowhere, this place is a most worthwhile detour. Thousand of titles of new [not used] books at prices that'll knock your socks off. No current best sellers but scads of contemporary major authors' popular fiction, classics, some non-fiction, childrens books and special collections. Very few illustrated "remainder" books.Allow at least an hour.Go and have a good time.

We stumbled across the Book Fair while on our way to another attraction--and what a great accident! There were so many new books of all types, and all organized so that shoppers could readily find what they were looking for. My husband, daughter, and I purchased several books--fiction, nonfiction, travel, some wonderful children's books for my daughter's elementary classroom, even some books for Christmas and birthday gifts for family--and all at reduced prices. As we are book lovers, this was like Christmas for us and we spent a happy hour+ browsing.

I went to this book fair with high expectations of finding really great deals on books. I walked away without a single purchase. Trust me...I am a reader and I was disappointed to say the least. I even looked at childrens books for family members and couldn't find a single thing worth buying.
