Thank you to Pastor Wellesley and his congregation for making us feel so welcome and for encouraging us to be part of a wonderful service. No words can really say how special this was to my son and me - simply thank you for embracing our presence.

The pastor is excellent. They offer a Saturday service at 6pm which i love because as a flight attendant i work alot of sundays. Nice big church and everyone is friendly. Im not from this area so this is my go to church away from home.

This was my second visit to Alfred Street Baptist Church. It is a spiritual, dynamic, proud, progressive, historical, impressive, warm and beautiful church. Alfred Street has a proud history in Alexandria. The congregation has been really warm and welcoming each time I have visited. I could tell the congregation cares for each other and work together to make their church successful in all its ministries/missions. It would be my choice to attend if/when I am in DC/Northern VA for a visit and looking for a church.

I used to attend this church years ago until they had several interim pastors. In the past year I have gone back to visit several times. The pastor has always had a great sermon. All the choirs are fantastic. Your soul will certainly be fed here and this is a teaching church with something for everyone.

My wife and I visited Alfred Street Baptist Church while taking a guided tour of Old Town Alexandria. This historic church itself is beautiful and located in a nice area. Alfred Street Baptist Church traces its origins to 1803, during the period when Thomas Jefferson served as the third president of the United States.

Warm, open, welcoming largely African American congregration.Visiting one weekend, we chose this church because frankly it was the only Baptist Church nearby. Once inside we realized we were quite the minority and gave mental note to the remnants of segregration in faith communities in most denominations. And the note was all there was. We were welcomed with open arms, embraced, hands shaken and moved deeply by the fabulous choir and congregation as we all lifted our voices in praise and song. The sermon was dynamic, thought-provoking and quickened our souls. The invitational profoundly moving.It was a fabulous experience for us, as well as our grandchildren. The Spirit lives in this church . There is joy, praise, love of God and true worship. We give thanks to the people of the Alfred Street Baptist Church for opening their doors, and for the wonderful lights that burn there for both resident and visiting community.We will worship here with these great people again.

Set on the corners of Alfred and Duke Streets (about 4 blocks south of King Street), this beautiful church stands as a tribute to the faith of 19th century denizens of Alexandria. This is an expanding congregation within a large building that has grown over the years to accommodate its membership. Explore the sanctuary and classroom building to appreciate this architectural gem. Participation in worship is the best way to realize that Alfred Street has not been content to be a historical symbol but sees itself a vital, living church with an exciting faith.

A wonderful religious institution in the Washington, DC area. Led by Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley, it has ministries for people of all ages and interests. Parking can be a little tough because the church is in the heart of busy Old Town (corner of Duke and Alfred Streets), but it is definitely worth the visit.

Wonderful church with a great history. People of all races and creeds worshiping together. Great piece of Alexandria.

My husband and I were visiting Alexandria, VA from Ohio. We had been headed for a different church we had seen on the Internet for their Easter Sunday Sunrise Service. We were running a little late, and saw a lot of people going into this church. We thought let's just go here. Oh wow, we had no idea what a blessing we would receive. The pastor was truly inspirational. The church had a full choir and orchestra with violins, bass, brass, grand piano. The soloists were fantastic. The church had an Easter service the night before and 5 services that day...and it was packed. Everybody was very friendly, and it made me feel good about our future. We were not dressed as well as most, but that didn't matter. The women around us wore hats and gloves, and the men were in suits. We felt like we had been to church!!

We stopped in here on Good Friday. We didn't stay for the whole service, but the members of the congregation were so welcoming and friendly. They really made a difference in our vacation. Before the service several members of the church were playing the hand bells, Wow! Just wow! They were wonderful! My kids were mesmerized and wanted to stay and listen for hours. This was an unexpected highlight of our vacation to Washington DC.

Pastor Howard John Wesley is a phenomenal pastor and preacher. He's charismatic, very intelligent, and spot on with his theological knowledge. The environment is warm and inviting. The choirs are excellent. There are ministries offered to serve almost anyone.

I have visited this church several times and always enjoy the music portion of the service. Everyone there is very friendly and welcoming. The service is quite long compared to what I am accustomed to so I don't stay for the entire service; but the pastor is very good and I enjoy my visits for their many special concerts and events.
