My kids loved this. They thought is was such a good re-use of something that had limited use. We have visited this each time we have visited Virginia Beach.
What a great community resource! Walking, running, trails, play areas and we loved the exercise stations! Built on a municipal landfill this park provides nice changes in elevation, birdwatching in the lakes and a great space for play and exercise.
It is a Nice spot for family's with kids of all ages to go if you have little ones they could go to the wood playing area and the nice part is that the bathrooms are right in front of it for older kids and teenagers there is the skate park is not that big but a descent size for beginners and inter medium kids and if you are of the older crowed just relax with a walk around the whole park sit in front of the lake or even make a family picnic day and stay in one of the cover bungalows with a huge grill and you could even have a nice BBQ with the family, it is Located at Independence Blvd. on the left right before it changes to Holland rd.
Went sledding in February. What a great spot! Interesting history to the park, and the kids we took sledding kept commenting on how unique it was to sled on trash!!
Really nice fitness themed park. Offers several different paths to overcome the boredom of laps. And if you're feeling energized tackle the hill.
Much better than it sounds. Big lake. Excellent walk around the lake, would highly recommend this as a park visit for family. Enjoy.
Fun park in the area to take your kids or go for walks at! Has paved walking/biking trails that are really fun on nice days. Also has a couple nice areas with play equipment for kids.
Good place for a walk, exercise or just a few minutes to spend outside. One of the best places to celebrate 4th of July as the fireworks display is spectacular !
There are different areas and sides to the park that includes a stairway to the top of the hill, multiple shelters with grills, an exclusive kids park, fitness course, canoe ramps, scenic walking trail, annual events and is family and dog friendly.
Very mixed about this park. I live nearby and so I see the crowds gather there, along highway 264, when the sun is out. What I like:1) Lots of space for little kids to run, which is what little kids like to do when presented with wide open space.2) Lots of cool playground equipment.3) A big mountain to run up and down on--that's where MT gets its name. The mountain is a grass-covered pile of city trash, parked right in the middle of the city.4) Everything is free.5) Good place for kites on a breezy day.6) There is a (short and monotonous) but safe jogging trail around the manmade water thing. What I don't like:1) The lack of shade trees is annoying. How long can you watch a 3-yr-old run around while you bake away in August humidity? The kid won't last long either.2) A big, manmade pond/lake in the center of the park that you are not allowed to enter, touch, swim in, fish in, boat in, or otherwise enjoy other to gaze upon it. Don't you hate it when city officials put these temptations in front of you and then install a zillion signs that say No, No, No!3) Because of all the prohibitions, pretty much adults can only watch children play at MT, or they can run around the lake that they can't touch.
I like everything about Mt Trashmore Park.It is beautiful! So many stairs....Awesome! It was great fun, breath taking. There was nothing I didn't like.
I normally go here to fish. I don't dare eat any of the fish but still a nice place to throw out a line. There is plenty of things to do here. You can go to the park area which is pretty big, they also have a skate park, and a running trail that spreads across the lake and park. This is also a popular place to watch the 4th of July firework show, fly kites, or just run down the hill. Great place for a family outing.
Not much more can be said that has not been said already in other reviews. Just a really nice park for some good old family fun. Put the cell phones, tablets, laptops, and other electronics down and enjoy the play ground. Great place to fly a kite in the spring also.
I was a preteen when this park was just a pile of rubbish, and to see it blossom into the community asset and landmark that it has makes me smile! I rated this attraction excellent because I remember it "back in the day," and it is a modern miracle, for sure!
It is very develop for those who liked to exercise(good equipment), great play ground area for the kids, skateboarding too.
