Nice house and garden, plus there is a visitor center with displays including lively otters. Worth an hour or so.

A very family friendly park. Not only is it historical it has a great animal section for the kids and a wonderful Japanese garden for adults. Always and enjoyable time. Great for a family day out at the park and for a picnic.

The exciting element is hop on and hop off trolley tour through the park. You can have get together there with family and friends. For kids there are few farm animals.

Maymont is a great place for families, nature photo shoots, dates. even weddings (yes, we were married here back in the dark ages). It has a barnyard with farm animals for the kids and lots of exotic gardens...bald eagles, red tail foxes, cougars, bears...Make sure to check the hours of operation before going...they close earlier during the winter.

Wonderful park to spend the day exploring & having a picnic. I was taken here as a little girl by my parents & will faithfully keep the tradition alive when I have children. They do ask for a donation to enter the park. There is also a fee if you decide to tour the Dooley's mansion. The mansion is beautiful to see & I would recommend it to any history buff or lover of old houses. The park itself has animals, waterfalls, ponds, creeks, trails, bamboo forests & beautiful gardens. It's a great place to spend the day & take pictures.

This is a great habitat of native Virginian animals and plants. Be ready for a long walk along the rolling hills that make up the natural surroundings. Great history and loads of fun for kids interested in wildlife.

Even when it's hot this is a great place to take your kids. The park is well designed and easy to navigate. Well worth a visit

The beautiful countryside at the Maymont estate is breathtaking. The meandering walkways lead you through fantastic flower gardens, dozens of species of native trees and flora, and a wide variety of rescued animals. You can see bears, bright red foxes, vultures, eagles, hawks, step across a coy pond on circular stones, hike up and down the side of the hill through the bamboo forest, and relax on a quiet, grassy slope where you can eat your lunch. It's a sense of time standing still. I felt a great peace and comfort while walking around and getting close to nature. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it. Plan to be there the entire day. You can't enjoy it on a timetable - you have to experience it while savoring each moment in nature.

Great place to take kids, there is an area where children can pet various animals. Also good place for adults to walk, get plenty of exercise, there is also a historic house that you can tour.

Wonderful stone buildings, cool architecture, beautiful grounds, fascinating nature lessons and exhibits for children (including hands-on), families from 2 to 92. The Dooley mansion tour is not to be missed.

Loved all the animals and you can feed and pet them too.. A nice area to sit and have a snack is provided. Plenty of place to walk and let children run. Great family place with awesome gardens and flowers, there is also an ice cream cart in the summer.. Love this place.

Having large grounds, one is never far from a fellow human playing, jogging, having family time, visiting the animals, simply strolling or enjoying the grassy lawn. The Japanese gardens are great to imagine being in Tokyo with all it's many stepping stones and pool of coi fish. There are bears, and otters, and plant life in abundance. There are trails all over the park, and lots of knolls to picnic on. Summer and spring would be ideal times to visit. Funny thing is you don't feel too lost and it's not terribly noisy... just right. There is no fee to get in, but a $ donation doesn't hurt and goes a long way if you visit their main mansion tour with lots of history.

Historic home, park, gardens, and small petting zoo. The home is well preserved and the guides are well educated in the family history and the home. The gardens are very natural and like those of the family that would live in this home. There is lots of paths to roam and outdoor beauty as well as the family petting zoo.

Grounds are free, donation requested for mansion tour. The tour is enjoyable. Otherwise, make sure you have comfortable shoes for walking -- the estate has multiple gardens on (I believe) 100 acres. There is a small aquarium for an additional fee. Kids would enjoy.
