The winery itselt faw very fun and laid back. the wines were average. The service was just ok. The gentleman that helped us made us feel like we didn't know what good wine was because we prefer the sweeter wines. We stopped here on a tour and it was a little busy but they did make room for us. I will prob go back and try it again.
Good and knowledgeable service. White wines were excellent, also really liked the sangiovese. Pretty setting with tables on the back porch.
Small winery located in Hye TX. We stopped here as one stop on our day long winery tour and really enjoyed it. The staff was very accommodating, pleasant and went out of their way to help describe and provide information on all the wines. Everybody in out group ended up buying wine here. They have a nice patio to relax and have a glass of wine.
we LOVED their Junkyard red wine!! they had great swings outside to sit and enjoy our wine and fun games to play! the inside was small & cute and we liked the people that worked there a lot..only downside of this place was no live music when we visited on a sunday afternoon...but i recommend visiting!
I enjoyed both the tasting and the conversation with the winemaker. He even showed us pictures and videos on his phone and told personal stories that made it a great experience!
This was our first stop on the wine tour. Trish was very helpful with the wines and compted our wined tasting for us as we bought several bottles. Enjoyed the stop here
Driving by you dont think this would be a great place, but this is truly a great winery. This was the last stop on our tour, and were thinking it would not be great, but we were pleasantly happy with this stop. The wines we tasted were excellent. The scenery was grand. Very nice place.
I liked the vino but the service wasn't the best but it is what you get if you go with about 20 people to a bar all at the same time. Beautiful grounds and great patio.
Owner Mike and staff were very friendly and helpful. The petite Syrah was excellent. Another must stop around 290 wine trail. Watch out old guard. This place and their neighbor are shaking up the 290 wine trail.
This little winery doesn't look fancy from the outside. In fact, you might overlook it....but you'll be missing out. A lot of people don't make it all the way to Hye and choose to stay in the immediate Fredericksburg area, but that's a mistake. This winery has an excellent staff and delicious wine. Enjoy a glass on their back patio. There was a food truck on site in case you were hungry. We'll be back.
We enjoyed our time at this winery. We went on a day where they were serving great food! They had whole hog BBQ and had a big screen TV with the World Cup on. We had a nice red wine and enjoyed in while sitting under a tree in a great swing. The people working here were super nice and helpful.
I love Becker winery. But I'm not a member. I loved Inwood but didn't sign up. Hye is the first winery I've signed up for because every wine I tasted was good or excellent so I figure they won't ship me wine I'm not going to like. And the wines are reasonable at about $20 a bottle. They are not yet a vineyard in Texas but are planting this year. They use a variety of grapes, not all TX. They have a similar palette to mine and I even liked their "sweeter" wines (even though I don't like sweet wine) because the sugar content is 2% versus 6% at other wineries. The tasting room is nice and friendly and the view is lovely looking out on a field with oak trees. I can't wait to return and enjoy some live music and good wine.
This was our first trip here as it is one of the newer wineries on 290. They had 2 different tasting menus – one for dry reds and one with a mix of red, white, and sweet. Your tasting fee was comped with a 2 bottle purchase. I did the mixed tasting and my husband opted for the reds. I definitely liked the reds more than the whites or sweet wines. They even had a sparkling wine which wasn’t bad. We had a very engaging server and she allowed some flexibility for my tasting as I’m not a huge fan of whites or sweet wines but wanted to try a variety of things. The Tempranillo and the Aglianico both stood out and we bought both. We also liked the Cab and bought that too. They had a Petite Sirah that wasn’t on the tasting menu but I bought a bottle on “faith” given how nice the other dry reds. My only complaint was the lack of Texas fruit in the wines. They are very up front that some of the grapes come from places (New Mexico, WA state, etc.), but I do hope to see more of a focus on Texas fruit in the future.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences and impressions of Hye Meadow Winery. I will be sure to let our tasting room staff know that you were impressed with their knowledge and customer service. I share your desire to see more Texas grapes in our wines. While we are able to make several great wines from grapes grown in Texas, we are also making great wines from grapes grown elsewhere. It’s not that we don’t want to make wines from grapes grown exclusively in Texas – there are just not enough grapes for our burgeoning wine industry. That’s starting to change as more and more grapevines are planted, but Texas weather can be capricious – the last two years have seen devastating late season frosts that have wiped out much of the season’s harvest. We’re doing what we can to help expand the grape production – our vine order has been placed and we expect to plant in the spring. By this time next year we’ll be able to call ourselves Hye Meadow Winery and Vineyard. We’ll hope you’ll come back to see us again.
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. Hope to see you again soon.
