If you need some quiet time away from the hustle & bustle, this will be a nice visit for you. Whether you just spend the day or rent a cabin, or park yor RV, quiet time is the name of the game.
This was a beautiful state park. We only came to walk the trails and the lake banks. We had a great time walking around looking at nature. Very unique views and flora. I would very much recommend it if you like nature. It looked like one could fish pretty well there. Next time we might stay in a cabin. The park itself is maintained well but rangers drive through it every 5 min (get a tag or you'll surely get a ticket). One thing that was disappointing is on the way to the park, on the side if the roads were just piles of trash. It is sad that the state if Louisiana and the state if a Texas do not. Enforce litter jaws more and clean up. Trash includes even larger items like mattresses, fridges, stoves, etc.
I know why Don Henley of the Eagles is so passionate about preserving this beautiful piece of nature.
It was a cold raining evening and the park cabins where great. Gas fireplace and real cozy. Refg, stove top, and two bedrooms. The lake is full again and looks a lot better than 2 years ago. Good boat ramp in park.
My best friend and I chose Caddo Lake because neither of us had been here before and it wasn't too terribly far from DFW. I'll admit that I didn't have high hopes or expectations going into it, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was absolutely beautiful. I really like how the tent campground was TENT ONLY. I wish the camp spaces had been slightly further apart for a little more privacy, but it's a tiny complaint compared to how amazing the park was. The Staff at the visitor's center were all very nice and helpful. The facilities were welcomed! There are bathrooms with real flushing toilets and hot water. The scenery was absolutely stunning. I cannot wait to go back. Next time, we are definitely bringing out kayaks.
We went on a quick hike in the late afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. After the hike we went to the fishing pier and enjoyed the beautiful sunset amongst the cypress trees. We checked out the campsite and will be returning to camp here.
This was a great little park to spend a long weekend at. We had a site right on the water that had everyone stopping for the amazing view. All of the rangers were extremely nice and helpful. Tons of fun taking the canoes out for a lazy tour of the area. One of the few places where we actually were catching fish!!!! Plenty of small places around to pick up some more wood or softdrinks or anything else you forgot. Lots of birdwatching and listening(heard 3 different types of owl).Only negative was that the hiking was a little limited as compared to some of the other parks we went to, but the hiking was still lots of fun.
On a whim we stayed overnight at the park. The cabin was super clean. Double beds firm but very comfortable. Bring your own soap and shampoo. Wonderful peaceful night spent watching the stars.
On the way back to Central Texas after a week long tent camp at Lake Catherine, AR, we decided to treat ourselves to a two night cabin stay in the Park. The cabin was excellent, very clean, roomy kitchen, good size bedrooms and sitting area. We loved the front porch! The Park walking trails are very well maintained. We went to the RV/tent area and all seemed very roomy. Hope to return one day, tent camp and enjoy all there is to see and do in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Spent last week here in a screen shelter. Also broke in our new kayaks in the bayou. Very scenic and relaxing. We will definitely return.
We just stayed here for a week in a pull-through RV site with full hookups. We received a great weekly rate and also a discount with our TX State Parks pass. We hiked every trail (not really the reason you would come here but OK for exercise), visited Mill Pond (beautiful especially in the evenings) and used the boat launch several times to put our kayaks on the water. Early morning and evening we had the Big Cyprus Bayou mostly to ourselves. We did not see any alligators here but caught a few fish and enjoyed the beautiful Cyprus trees, Spanish Moss and water lillies. It was hot and humid in early September and the mosquitos are bad during the evening but we throughly enjoyed our stay. Be sure to grocery shop before you come because it is quite a distance to the nearest store.
Spent a long weekend at Caddo and had an excellent time. On Saturday morning we took the Ranger led nature hike (with Ranger Mia). She was excellent. On Saturday afternoon we went on a tour of the Caddo Lake/Swamp and it was also well worth the time. The Cypress trees and Spanish Moss was like no other place in Texas. It was easy to forget we were still in Texas. We have a motor home and stayed in Woodpecker Hollow and it was perfect. The trees kept the heat off us. The CCC built the cabins and group shelter in the 30's and they are beautiful. I would strongly suggest you visit this park - you won't regret it. Everything is nice and clean and the staff couldn't be better.
Beautiful park, clean with nice LEVEL paved spots for RVs, they even had several handicapped access RV spots with very nicely done (smooth) concrete from the parking site with access to every place on the site. The Cypress trees with Spanish moss hanging from them were so beautiful, we saw egrets & blue heron, turtles sunbathing on logs, lots of fish jumping and all right from the fishing dock. There is a seasonal bat / watching guided talk with a park ranger which was really cool, we happened to be a the last talk for the season with Ranger Mia, apparently the colony of bats that lives here is a maternity colony so it’s mostly females helping each other have and raise their babies. Bat babies, or pups, are usually born between May and August – so that’s when the bats are at Caddo Lake. At the end of her talk we headed over to the dock to watch and it was perfect timing, over the tops of the trees we could see the bats flying out. It wasn’t hundreds, or thousands of bats it was maybe 50 or 60, of which 20 or so came up close to our dock, eating insects and skimming the surface of the water, one skimmed right over head of Ranger Mia!There is so much to do you can't do it all in one weekend! There are hiking trails, canoeing, fishing, swamp tours, shopping in nearby Jefferson, shopping at the flea market (1st & 3rd weekends), just chilling and meeting the neighbors!! We have decided we will be back many times to come, a new favorite for us!Sorry my pictures wouldn't load ... I have some beauties!!
Such beautiful scenery. There are quite a bit of activities that can be done, such as taking a nature hike, fishing, picnicking, taking a stroll down the lighted dock, canoeing, and camping. Definitely a fun, family oriented place.
We had always heard about Caddo Lake and wanted to experience it by staying at the state park. The cabins are terrific! Built in the 30s by the CCC, we found the cabins clean, well-cared for and refurbished. Plenty of storage room and comfort with a/c or heat and fireplace, separate bedrooms, full bath, grill and patio with chairs. Fishermen, locals and visitors alike can relax in the beautiful cypress trees and do nothing, or take local tours. Highly recommend!!
