it has been years since I have been here, and it is very much the same, A DON'T MISS MUSEUM DISPLAY. it gives you a lot of the areas oil history and history in general. it is basically an excellent reproduction of an early oil town main street. the concrete mud is a mazing to me ,and this museum is complete with full size antique vehicles and stores. the volunteers are very nice, and in my opinion most people will love it.

A really great way to learn about the beginning of the east Texas oil boom. Very interesting exhibits.

This museum really tells the tale of East Texas oilfield history. Located on the Kilgore College campus, it is interesting for visitors of all ages.

We didn't know very much about this area. This museum was great. We watched the movie. Toured the museum. The "town" they created in the museum was very impressive

If you have an interest in the history of oil drilling in Texas this is a must see museum. Their exhibits are quite informative and one unique setting allows you to "travel" down into the earth to see how oil is extracted. There is a recreation of an old oil town that you can walk through. They also have a fun gift shop with oil and gas related merchandise as well as other Texas items, e.g. walking sticks.

This museum is as good as all the reviews say it is! We stopped. In on a road trip from Dallas and it is a must see stop. I can't add much to what everyone else has already said except to cast one more Vote for this most excellent tourist attraction.

I am always amazed at how well done this museum is, considering it is located in a very small town. Oil was discovered at a time that East Texas was still transitioning from the Old West, where the horse and wagon was still the main stay. The Oil Boom brought in the high technology of the day, along with fortune seekers, criminals, and later law enforcement. If you are in Kilgore, in the oil field, or have a family history in the area, you need to come to the museum and live a little of the colorful past.

Very interesting museum. A must see. It's like walking back into history. It's about how Kilgore went from 800 to 8,000 people in 24 hours.

After a film introduction about Kilgore and oil country, you enter an exhibition about oil boom and oil-famous people. At the end, you are entering a small in-house town with barber shop, grocery etc. Mid-size museum with a big fun factor!

Very informative of the beginning of the oil boom, as well as how to drill, and what life was like on all levels. Love the movie as well as the recreated town! Very friendly too!

This museum offers so much about the life and times of the oil boom, how it impacted homes, business and the future of the area. Everything can be touched and the movie and the elevator ride are great. The 'talking' displays are fun, also. We plan on another visit to enjoy the outside display as well, on a day with good weather.

Don't be put off by the entrance - a small gift shop. The wow is right through the museum doors! My kids had to touch everything in the mock-up center of old town Kilgore - the mud, the donkey... The set-up is very inviting. We wandered in and out of the different "shops", the movie theater and the "elevator". It is a great way to realistically give kids a peak into the past and educate them (and adults) about oil drilling. We also enjoyed the park near-by.

I didnt think I would enjoy this museum because I thought the theme was rather bland. How can you make oil interesting? Well the museum is a marvelous array of history, learning and fun. They have a puppet show for the kids, a lively movie theater and a small indoor village depicting the early years of the TX oil boom. Rarely do I say "wow" when experiencing a museum. This one caught my attention. A must see if you are in the area. Entrance fee is very reasonable.

Very educational. Some displays need to be updated/upgraded. Puppet show needs work. Worth the time and money. Also, website needs correct address.
