Vik is a very charismatic personality, but her horse knowledge is somewhat lacking. As a full time professional farrier I was disturbed by the lack of hoof care. We went in the winter and there were more than a few "older" horses that looked like death warmed over. I was further disturbed by the smell of cannabis that emanated from her and the "forgetfulness" to put it nicely that pervaded the experience. I have in my day come across a few Spanish Mustangs, but these looked like they needed some rest and groceries. To make it worse, when I asked to use the restroom I was directed into the house where I was nearly knocked over by the cat odor. I have cats at home, but I have never smelled a litter box so full. There was cat litter on the floors in the bathroom! If I were a local I would have turned her in to the sheriffs department. I would strongly recommend finding another attraction nearby.
I found Karma Farms on the Internet listed under mustangs. My husband and I are taking a cross-country road trip through the west and I wanted to find mustangs. In Karma Farms you will find so much more. Vic has dedicated most of her life to preserving the Spanish mustang. I have been around horses and horse people most of my adult life. I was enchanted and amazed at the knowledge this woman has. Do not be deceived at the size of these horses. Averaging 14 hands. They're mighty and strong along with being beautiful. This is also not your average nose to tail trailride. Vic had taken time to show us her operation and her gorgeous and personable stallions. Do not expect a spic and span, dress right dress farm. Vic works here with some but little help. She is an energetic lady but has a big job. We prepared to go on our ride. Sidenote: I was able to choose to ride in a saddle from the 1890s. She and I left to ride across her field. This property has been in her family for over 100 years. It is beautiful. We wandered in and out of her herds, she talking about the individual mares and yearlings. Because I was interested, she explained different plants and flowers and landmarks. She conducts camps and rides and general education about her horses throughout the community. I am a horse owner so it's easy for me to be bored with trail horses. But during this entire visit I couldn't help but feel that this was a special experience. Vic also has several horses to sell for what I consider more than reasonable prices. I can see that she would have a horse perfect for any level of rider, beginner to middle to advanced and and if you're into endurance rides, these are the horses for you!!There are so many activities available that are sugar sweet and family fun activities that require standing in lines. Karma Farms offers a completely authentic original experience.
Awesome horseback riding experience. Vickie was very safety minded and instructed our children (9 and 11) in a thirty minute training session on how to navigate their horses before we headed out on the trail. She also provided helmets for them to wear. (This was the first time either of them had been around horses). The horses are gentle and wonderful with riders. They are a smaller breed, which was ideal for the children's first encounter. Wear comfortable clothing and watch your step!- it is a ranch. (You might want to bring an extra pair of shoes; just in case.) If your children are curious and drawn to horses, you should check out Karma Farms. It was exhilarating to watch the elated expressions on their face throughout our adventure, and they are begging to go back!Vickie is the definition of down home goodness. She has a great disposition and the welfare of the horses and children in mind. We originally wanted a two hour ride but being our kids first experience (even though she could have made twice the money) she recommended a one hour first time. Spend some time talking with her and you'll see exactly how knowledgeable she is. if your kids have ever seen the animated movie "Spirit" or "Hidalgo" you'll have to ask her about them. This is both a great history lesson and a great family event. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll be back.
