If you are in the Granbury, TX area I would highly recommend stopping by the Windmill Farm in Tolar, TX. Stop by and visit on your own or give Chuck and Ruby a call and set up a tour. No fee to visit, but donations are appreciated. Very interesting to learn about and see the various types of windmills. They also have a bed and breakfast on their land with beautiful views of rolling hills, two donkeys and of course many windmills:)
It was a rainy, overcast day in Granbury, so my husband and I decided to drive around the area. We passed a sign for "Windmill Farm" near Tolar, so using my trusty TripAdvisor app I quickly found a positive review. Windmill Farm? Free? Drive Thru? Why the heck not?So after traversing a scenic back road off the main highway, you come upon a driveway with a small little station. The station has a donation box (which of course we made a contribution!), information, as well as a handout you can take with you for a self-guided tour. The farm appears to be at a home with a bed & breakfast. You just drive around using the guide sheet, each windmill is numbered so you can easily follow the guide while you drive around. It was actually very interesting, I didn't know there was so many variations of design and history regarding windmills. Got some neat pictures too.Definitely something different to see in the area, and it's FREE and you don't even have to get out of your car. Why not!
Fun and different, don't think I have ever seen a windmill 'farm' before. Was not aware that there was so much history to windmills
