We spent 5 days in the Yellowstone backcountry, this was an exceptional experience. Jill and Dave are very professional and caring, this only adds to the overall experience. The trip to the Bechler Canyon and Boundary Creek are amazing, absolutely worth the visit. This hardly felt like a back packing trip with all the wonderful amenities and experience. I couldn't recommend the 5 day Yellowstone trip more.
All of our expectations were exceeded by Dave, Jill, Trask and their amazing llamas. We were spoiled by the end of our trip. The energy of the staff is friendly and helpful. The llamas were so sweet and patient. The scenery was beyond any that I've experienced in the West.We went on a hike without the llamas, in order to do some bushwhacking. It began to storm and we were pretty chilly, as we mucked our way back to our base camp. Dave had a warm little camp fire, and water for hot drinks, waiting for us; and a tarp set-up to get us out of the rain. Now how's that for service ?
Different looking animals we were more interested in hiking. The area is so beautiful with the mountain ranges.
Highly recommend a day hike with Jill and Dave. It was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Jackson Hole. My husband (72 yo) and I (57 yo) found it to be a nice pace, not taxing. Dave an Jill gave us fascinating commentary about the region and the animals. "My llama" Kessie was a sweetie pie. We had a lovely lunch in a meadow.
Such fun. The llamas were so sweet. Really gave me a new appreciation for this animal. The guides were so nice and helpful. My initial concern was the llama stepping on me, I'm short. Not a problem. They have feet like camels and they were so sweet, I never had one even close to stepping on me. The llama would rub his nose on my back or head, it was to get a fly off his face, they don't have hands. The guide said they will use you to help get the pest off of them. I gladly assisted the four legged sweetie. I certainly recommend this company and hike. We walked through a couple of creeks about 2 ft deep. I'm guessing that would be due to snow runoff. Yes it was cold. Not unbearable. We did a bit of climbing, not steep, just a gradual incline, so altitude effected me a very small amount, this is from someone that lives in the center of the United States. It's so peaceful. Take your water bottle or camelback. The ladies packed us a wonderful lunch including beverage the llamas carried for us. You don't have to lead a llama of you choose not to, but it's fun. Just to mention the youngest we had in our group was about 8, he did great.
What a fun day! I highly recommend this to people of all ages! Please don't think this is an activity for children only. My husband and I (50's) had a fantastic day spent with Jill, Lin, and Kristin, and of course, our two llamas Isabella and Eve! Jill is wonderful to work with because she is so thorough. From the first internet contact all the way through our hike, I knew we were in good hands. The llamas are very easy to hike with and the hike is through a beautiful forest. Jill also has a delicious lunch packed about half way through your hike. They also offer overnight trips and we are considering a return with our family for this adventure. If you are in Jackson, take a trek with the llamas. It is an experience you won't forget. Thanks Jill, Lin and Kristin for a wonderful memory!
We had a great day as hiking with the llamas was enjoyable and fun (about 5 hours from start to finish). Jill was well organized and provided us with great directions and suggestions. Definitely bring your water shoes as you cross a few streams at the start of the hike. Jill had prepared a nice lunch which we enjoyed after hiking in about 2.5 miles. The scenery was just beautiful and the llamas were well managed and added a unique element to the hike. A definite highlight of our visit to Wyoming!
Stunning scenery and management of crowds. Limited parking so numbers inside the preserve are limited. Very informative Park Rangers and well appointed buildings and exhibits. Carry bear spray and be educated in how to or not to use it.
Everything about my experience with Jackson Hole Llamas was outstanding. Was a good value; recommend it for all ages.
We had a great time with Jill and Kathy. Relaxing not a strenuous hike with family. We crossed severalstreams with llamas and a highlight of the trip. Beautiful wildflowers this time of year.
Jill and Basil were excellent guides. I was with my 13 yr old and another family. Both my daughter and I got to hike with our own llamas. We had a wonderful time. We had a beautiful hike and the llamas were a lot of fun. They also had a delicious lunch for all of us. We saw a lot of wilderness and some snow as well. I would highly recommend this hike for people with kids because the kids will love the llamas. We hiked about a total of 3 miles so it wasn't too difficult.
My husband and I absolutely LOVED our llama hike with Jill and Dave (and our llamas, Eve and Peggy Sue)! Jill and Dave were friendly and knowledgeable guides, and Jill really knows how to pack a picnic! Yum! A note here: When they say to bring water shoes, THEY MEAN IT. I thought maybe the water crossing was just for the longer hikes. Nope! They were kind enough to lend me a pair for the 3 short (freezing!) streams we crossed toward the beginning of the hike, but I wish I had just brought my own. Make sure you bring hiking shoes AND waters shoes. Flipflops won't cut it. Note #2: Don't look a the 794 W Wind River Ln address provided here on TripAdvisor. Stick with Jill's directions or you'll end up in the wrong spot. Beautiful scenery, delightful guides... definitely something to brag about when we get home! Again - wonderful day, and everyone coming through Jackson Hole, WY should give this a try! :)
I am so happy to see 5 stars across the board for this wonderful organization. We went as a couple, and there were two other couples on the hike. Believe me, this hike is fun for adults, so don't think of it as just a fun kids' adventure! Jill (the owner) was in touch with us before the trip to make sure we knew of the meeting place (you actually meet them at the hiking location rather than at the ranch). Jill and her assistant were very friendly, and made sure we knew everything we needed to know regarding how to interact with the llamas and if we needed to stop during our hike. The hike was beautiful--it snowed on us (in mid June), but that added to the beauty. Lunch was plentiful and good. The tour lasted 5 hours, which was the perfect amount of time. One cautionary note: If you are staying in Jackson, be sure to get a rental car for this excursion. We thought it was closer the city, and found out once we arrived in Jackson that a taxi was going to cost us $100 one way to get to there. Therefore, we got a rental car for $50 for one day.Be sure to get kiss a llama--it makes for a fun photo to share!
Found Jackson Hole Llamas through Trip Advisor while looking for things to do in the area and decided to give it a try. We are a family of 4 with kids 16 & 14, and decided to try the day hike. We did not have any experience with llamas, but if you've ever walked a dog, it's kind of like that. They were friendly, fun and a great way to spend the day hiking. We liked it so much, that whenever we return to the area, we would love to go on an overnight trip with them.Jill and Cathy were wonderful conservationists and you can tell truly love their llamas. The lunch they provided creek-side hit the spot! I loved that they took the time to help us set up a picture with our llamas as well. If you are looking for a unique and different way to hike, this is truly that.
We had a lovely time with Jill and Dave and their crew of llamas (and Pepper the dog!). It was a fun hike with an extended leg while lunch was being set up (for adventurous folks) that lasted about 5 hours total. Highly recommended for hikers and llama fans.
