My trip to the see the Mustangs in the Pryor Mountains was amazing thanks to the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center http://www.pryormustangs.org/ and Pryorwild http://www.pryormustangs.org/tours.shtml.My day started with a quick trip with John Nickle to see the horses along highway 37, known as the Dryhead area, he spotted one and so we hiked about a half mile or so and found three handsome bachelor stallions, Chief Joseph, Johnston, and Hawk. Next, Steve Cerroni took me on the Pyrorwild Jeep tour and drove me to the mountain top, which was really amazing in its own right as I did not know a Jeep could climb over rocks and rough terrain. The first band we encountered heading up the mountain was Cloud’s. Cloud grazed peacefully with his band--it really was a dream come true to see him. We continued to climb and found several other bands and were able to walk amongst them. The range is ruggedly beautiful and the horses grazed peacefully. Steve pointed out who was who and I learned a lot about the politics of the herd. Lynda Nickle provided printouts so I could note the horses as Steve pointed them out. Nancy Cerroni sent a most amazing trail mix and a delicious picnic style lunch that included cheesecake and cherries. The day provided a most amazing vista of horses, landscape, conversation, and good food. My favorite horse was Boulder and am very grateful to have had a day in their world. At the end of the day counting Besa and Styles, I had seen 84 horses. My visit to the Pryor’s was amazing and I look forward to returning for another visit!

I wanted to see the Pryor Mustangs and can't tell you how glad I am to have decided to booked the tour with Steve at Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center. The tour exceeded all my expectations. First I never would have been able to find all those beautiful wild horses on my own, let alone get up that mountain without Steve's expert driving. Then came all those beautiful horses and their wonderful stories. We saw around 100 horses, and got to observe them at close range and watch their interactions with each other. Steve provided yummy snacks and lunch. One of the highlights was seeing a mother bear with cubs! The Pryor Mustang herd is diverse. As a photographer, I relished the variety of horses, in terms of colors, age, and energy; as a animal lover, I loved being able to get a sense of the individual temperaments and behaviors of the mustangs: friendships that exist between some of the bachelor stallions, affection between mother and colt or brothers that were a year apart, things like how one stallion closely guarded his band while another stallion seems much more relaxed. Fascinating and awesome!!Rather than cross this off my bucket list, I leaving it on my bucket list for another visit.

You simply have to stop here to find out where the horses are, exactly who is down by the road, a wonderful gift shop resides here as well.

The trip of a life time. Steve and Nancy at the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center began our trip with a Jeep Ride up Pryor Mountain. That ride alone was an exciting trip. Glad Steve was driving as the jeep climbed over the boulders and steep grade. As we reached the top of the Mountian we saw our first wild Mustangs across the valley. The first band of horses was the family of the stallion Garay. Minutes later the Stallion Hernando with a palomino mare Phoenix the dam of the world famous stallion "CLOUD" with War Bonnet, Niobrara, Maelstrom tagging along wandered down to get a drink at the pond. We were provided with guide that allowed us to identify the horses. But that was not needed. Steve and Nancy knew each and every horse on the range. All total for the day we saw 79 wold horses. Many up close and personal. We tried to keep a safe distance, most the time the horses just moved around us. Picnic with horses? Yes they provided us a wonderful lunch at the old "Pen Cabin" at the top of the Mountain. Joining us for lunch was Jasper and Moorcraft, two bachelors stallions. Before heading down Steve spotted another Palomino horse. The highlight of the trip we ran over and were able we see "Cloud" and his band of horses. After drinking the all rolled and played in the water. No longer the pretty palomino, now a dark storm cloud a muddy mess, but they were happy. Half way back standing next to the road was Garcia and his band. If you enjoy MOUNTAINS, WILD LIFE, HORSES, this is one of those once in a life time trips that is a must do!

I just got back from a trip of a lifetime. The highlight of my trip was a tour of the Wild Mustangs in the Pryor Mountains. Tour guides Steve and Nancy Cerronie will take you up to the top of the mountain in a jeep. It is an adventurist ride to the top with gorgeous views at every turn and you may even see a bear as we did. Steve and Nancy are not only welcome company but their knowledge of the mountain and wild horses amazed me. They knew every name and history of the 70 Wild mustangs we saw. This included Cloud the star ambassador seen on PBS and ABC and his family. You won't go hungry. They had a yummy bag of snacks for the trip up and we had a picnic lunch by an historic homesteaders cabin with breathtaking views. I highly recommend (even if you have a 4 wheel drive) to take the tour with Steve and Nancy. You will get so much more out of your trip to top and viewing of the Wild Mustangs.Janet Dunnington, Vermont
