This is a gorgeous area. We stopped while on our Tauck winter wonderland tour. So beautiful in the winter with all the snow and few people around.

This is the iconic spot to view Yellowstone Falls, so it is crowded with tourists during the season. The view is grea if you wait for a spot to open along the rail, but as mentioned in my review of the Canyon, take one of the paths downriver for a greater appreciation of the setting.

From this location you get excellent views of the lower falls. It is a short walk and the area is very scenic.

This is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. There is a reason it is called "Artist Point". On any given day in summer, you can see artists painting here. It is stunningly beautiful and a must see when you are in Yellowstone. A great place to relax and think!

I don't think there is one place inside Yellowstone that you can pin point as the best thing to see. But I can say that Artist Points was amazing to see in my opinion

This is an awesome viewing spot of the lower falls. There are two viewing levels and one is wheelchair accessible. This is a fantastic spot to take photos of the canyon and falls.

I entered the park through the south gate and with my senior pass it was free. You get a map as you enter the gate with all the lookout sites clearly shown. In my view Artist Point (view of the Upper and Lower Falls in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone) is the most spectacular non-geothermal feature in Yellowstone. There are a number of different viewing points of the falls like Lookout Point, Red Rock Point, Brink of the Upper and Lower Falls and Uncle Tom's Trail View but the Artist Point view is the best and easiest to get to. There is a trail off of Artists Point that leads you to Uncle Tom's view which if you have the time is worth the effort. Bring some binoculars and you will see ospreys, ravens, sparrows and bald eagles nest along the 1,000 foot canyon walls. It's amazing what a volcanic eruptions 600,000 years ago can start and lava flows, glaciers, earthquakes, wind and water can finish. Artist Point was given it's name by Park Photographer F. Jay Haynes in 1883. The red colored walls are iron oxide while the yellow and other colors resulted from hydrothermally altered rhyolite. The off season is a great time to go to Yellowstone. Summer traffic is frustrating and slow. Watch for tick morning fog. Animal crossings especially at dusk and dawn. Some even like to lay down on the warm paved roads. Finally there is constant road work so check the Yellowstone website for locations or just stop at the visitor's center and they will inform you.

Artists point is a very short walk from the parking lot, and well worth it for the beautiful view. Be prepared to be patient to get to the front of the crowd to take your photos though - it's a popular tourist spot in the park (and you will quickly see why). Total parking to point and back to the car is less than 30 minutes. Nice stop - don't miss.

This is a beautiful view, but be careful. True story: a man on his honeymoon asked his bride to back up a step for a better photo - and she did. Enjoy the view and worth the drive around the back side of the falls. Stop at Uncle Tom's trail.

It has a really gorgeous view, while the colors you see also depends on time of day and weather. On weekends there could also be a LOT of people.

We thought this was one of the most spectacular views within Yellowstone. Located in the Canyon Area (just south of Canyon Village), when traveling north on Grand Loop Road, make a right over Chittenden Bridge and follow South Rim Drive to the very end. You will pass Uncle Tom's Point on the left. There is a parking lot and restrooms are available. Although there are beautiful views from here, you'll want absolutely want to follow the paved trail to the overlook. It's an easy walk and wheelchair accessible. Be sure to consider the time of day when visiting for the best photo opportunities, because they will be stunning!

This is another one of the MUST STOPS in YSNP. It's a great place to see the Canyon and a beautiful waterfall.
