western heritage museum - lea county cowboy hall of fame

A wonderful place to visit, especially if you like western art and the history of southeastern NM. The listings and stories of all the champion RCA and PCRA cowboys is very impressive.

The staff at Western Heritage Museum does a wonderful job with up-keep and scheduling interesting exhibits and events. We have been out here for several different exhibits including the Crime Scene Investigation exhibit, the Dinosaur Exhibit, and they currently have a private collection Andy Warhol Exhibit. They also regularly host events, such as the Child Safety Day, and the highly attended Christmas Around the World Celebration. The traditional exhibit about the Lea County Area is also very interesting, (although, not so much for the kids). My kids love "Gus" the animated cowboy who brings the west to life. I recommend a visit!

Walking through here reminded me of the raw grit it took to settle and survive in the "wild west" . The museum is filled with artifacts and stories of the men and women who contributed to the culture and community throughout thier lives. A rewarding and inspiring experience. It provides you with a picture into what it took to make it in the west and the character, in some cases alot of character, that each individual had to have in order to survive. You won't be sorry you spent a couply of hours reliving the experiences of these men and women.
