The exhibit was very nice in this small Art Museum. The combination of art from 2 local resident's collections was well put together, and thoughtful. Also had the benefit of being free.
Lovely art displays as well as permanent exhibits make this museum a great addition to the attractions in Las Cruces. Good for families or just a browse while visiting the downtown area.
We visit the museum whenever we're in Las Cruces. We have never been disappointed in the exhibitions there. The show there now is Chicanitas, small paintings from Cheech Marin's collection. Very nice with some memorable artists that I will follow. Another show that I liked were WPA artists in New Mexico and contemporary ceramics. The personnel are helpful and friendly.
The Museum of Fine Arts and Culture, I believe, includes The Branigan just across the walkway. As far as museums go, compared to big city museums, the complex is fairly simple and small. But, their displays are first class, varied, rotated often, and free! Apart from the displays and art shows, the museum complex does so much more for Las Cruces. They host art classes, have guest lecturers and musicians, and encourage the arts in the community by making their facilities accessible. The displays in the main art museum are always marvelously set up and skillfully lighted. And, it isn't just small town art. They show international traveling shows that have included Dali prints and old Asian pen and ink drawings (which were breathtaking). This latest show is of local high school senior art and it is marvelous in its content and display. They are a real asset to the community.
This museum is far and above one's expectations for a town the size of Las Cruces. Most of the special exhibitions are outstanding, and after your visit you can cross the little plaza to visit the Branigan Cultural Center, also almost always a delight!
You must see what Las Cruces has to offer. So much history to tell in this town. And while you're there Eat at the Double Eagle..you won't regret it!
We went to see the Bison exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed it, plus the rest of the museum. The exhibit had something for all ages - games for young kids, music, visual information - very well done and very enjoyable.
It was so much more than I expected. We stopped by looking to kill a little time before we could check into our motel. We ended up staying a couple of hours because there was so much to see. Very impressed with this museum.
The staff makes heroic efforts considering their extremely limited budget.
Gratis entree. Ingang en omgeving zien er niet echt aantrekkelijk uit maar binnen maakt veel goed. Vriendelijke en behulpzame medewerkers. Ook leuk voor kinderen.
