It is one of the largest state fairs in the US, conveniently located in St. Paul. Large selections of food vendors, interesting exhibits - many of them highly educational. Much educational information. Nice building for the arts (mostly paintings) with opportunity to buy. Variety of food. Good representation of racial & ethnic groups of the state.
I love food on a stick - one time a year. I do like crowds, one time a year. I do like the "Great Minnesota Get Together," one time per year. The Minnesota State Fair is some place you need to experience. It is huge, it is interesting, it is a place to wander and eat and eat and wander. Go there if you can - you may find out that you have to do it again....

The Corn , cookies , big slides , the rides and many more to enjoy .we get different food at state fair, i would say the main attraction at the state fair is the variety of food it offers . Its a 2 week fair ends on labour day every year. its a good place to have fun and food
I LOVE the MN State Fair, it's one of my favorite past-times, and tradition for me to go for my birthday. It's good to go more than once if you can, and with different people each time to see and eat different things.I admit...I go to eat :)Can be VERY crowded, so walk the perimeter if you're new to the MN State Fair, to get your bearings and just walk into different buildings to see what's available. If you want a milkshake, go to the Dairy Barn, NOT just any stand but the actual Dairy Barn.Tiny Tim's mini donuts are so good and one of my favorites.People-watching is a MUST...everyone comes out of the woodwork :)
The MN State Fair is quite the spectacle, I go 3-4 times each year (in a 12 day run) and really enjoy every moment. There is something for everyone, it can sometimes be costly, but I always find myself not blowing through all my money by end of the night (which is a good thing). If you are going for the Fair, arrive early to find parking. You can either park at a Fair lot or take the bus, I have done both and prefer to pay for parking so I can be close to my car at the end of the night. There are many, many building that are interesting on the grounds. Most are WPA/Art Deco inspired and date back to 1906. The majority are 1930's/1940's, with a smattering of newer buildings thrown in.If you are used to the county fair type, the State Fair is all that and more. They also rent out the grounds for events throughout the year - my favorite up until this year was the hockey tournaments at the Coliseum (they no longer make ice now). They also hold horse shows, comic book shows, flea markets, car shows, Winter Carnival events and almost anything else you can think of here throughout the year.
love to sample the fun and new food types besides the long time favorites. Great date night for my hubby and I
Our 11 day event is jam packed with something for everyone. For a modest entry fee you can try a wild variety of foods from all over the world, be entertained in a dozen music venues, see tons of animals of every ken, improve your home, try out new gadgets, eat and drink your day away, go for carnival rides, get your face painted or your hair done and it's some of the best people watching in the world.
It is always fun to go to. great food, great crafts, great entertainment, clean, plenty of public service help there if needed.
I never realized how unimportant other states saw their state fair until I left the state! And that's because they are just not that cool!Minnesota State fair is a fun, and helps you get your steps in! We go for the food and the fellowship with our fellow minnesotians! If food is why you're i would advise to get the App! It helps local certain foods!
Attended State fair last August while my son did orientation in UOM Was very pleased with the food and the attractions such as the birthing tent and the wide variety of farm animals. Many souvenir shops and rides for the kids. Well worth the admission price and a great place to spend the day!!!
We went on a record day. It was hot and crowded. Are experience was still neat. We saw tons of people and felt safe. The food was great. Lots of choices and things to see and do for free and small cost.
The Minnesota State Fair has everything for everyone. There are rides for the kids and rides for the adults. Make sure you wear good walking shoes you will cover a lot of ground if you do the fair right. There is every kind of food you could want and some you have never heard of but are a must to try. If shopping is your passion this is the place to go. There are several areas that are dedicated markets selling many things you need and many things you don't but will once you see them. The fair has all of the traditional animals and games, farm equipment and recreational equipment so if that is your idea of a perfect fair the Minnesota State Fair has it and so much more. Plan to spend a day or two and enjoy the fire works at closing time.
The State Fairs of State Fairs! Lots to see, do and eat...especially if it is "on a stick". Family fun or couple fun, or friend fun! Grandstand shows are great in the evenings too!
You have to go to the Fair if it is on when you are here. ALL of MN will be there - ALL OF IT. You can meet unbelievable folk, and eat unbelievable food, and LOTS of animals. An annual tradition.
Open 24/7/365 (except maybe for Christmas). See a World-class collection of chain-saw art; walk on the streets which are pedestrian/runner/cyclist friendly and flat. Watch the seasons change because the fairgrounds are loaded with trees.
