This park was very grand in its day. It has an old conservation core type amphitheater. very nice landscaping and some revenants of the 20's and 30's if you look around. There is nice paths right down to lake superior and of course, the leaf Erickson ship. My family and I have visited this expansive park many times and we have always enjoyed it. My daughter especially liked to go exploring off the beaten path along the shoreline just a little to the north of the center of the park. IF you like to visit parks this one is one of the more unique ones.
I went here on a whim on a chilly, breezy autumn day. The rose collection - a major treasure, it appears - was being put to bed for the winter. But the trees were still pretty, and the Lake was still...the Lake. Great place to stroll quietly around, or relax on a bench or in the gazebo and just Be.
One of the highlights of Duluth. I walk here at least once a week in the summer and fall. The flowers are meticulously maintained and breathtakingly beautiful. It is a place of peace and inspiration and... it gives hope to those of us that it is possible to have rose bushes in the frozen tundra.
It's a park with flowers . Nice to walk around and look at the lake . The rose garden is nice to walk around . Benches there to sit and look at the lake.
We came upon this park by accident as we ventured along the lakewalk. Immaculate. We may have looked a little foolish taking pictures of roses, but that's what tourists do, right?
Who would have imagined a romantic rose garden rising above the shores of Lake Superior? Someone did, and kudos to them for this beautiful garden full of hardy, short-lived roses planted in beautiful gardens with fountains, a stunning gazebo, and the endless blue-grey of the lake stretching out as far as the eye can see. Charming old trains run from the downtown train museum, puffing steam as they pass below, and sweepings steps lead down to the tracks and the shore. Duluth may present a businesslike front to the world but charmingly romantic heart beats within. An easy walk from Fitgers or Va Bene if you like a bit of an after-meal stroll.
On a beautiful fall day, there is nothing prettier than roses in full bloom, against a fall blue sky with the beauty of Lake Superior in the background. A MUST visit!
Take time to walk through the Rose Garden and the Leif Erikson park. Pull out a blanket and have a picnic in the grassy park bowl area and enjoy the stunning views of the lake. If in the park on a Saturday in the summer, you'll likely be able to see a new wedding happening on the hour every hour in the Rose Garden. Just something to be aware of. Parking can be a nightmare, but do your best and walk the Lake Walk to where you want to be.
We stopped by well after peak rose season but enjoyed strolling the grounds and looking out over Lake Superior. Just a very pleasant place. Must be fabulous throughout the summer. The city and the rose club deserve thanks for maintaining the park.
I found this garden while I was looking for a free place to park so I could run by Lake Superior. It is hidden along the shoreline overlooking the lake and railroad tracks. The views are great for a picnic, it has a public rest room, an amazing granite fountain was moved here as well as another structure that I've seen families, wedding parties, elder day care visitors, runners, bikers and more stop here for a photo op. Some include the roses, the lake, the aerial bridge in the background. Oh yeah, amazing amount of hybrid roses maintained here. Seems they bury them in place for the feet deep snow. You can also access the running/walking/bike path via a series of bridges and go the 1.5 miles to the 'canal park' area or head north, or access the lake to play. Great place to sit for a picnic too.
This was a great park with a great variety of roses still in bloom the last week end in September. Seriously take the time to stop and smell these roses!
This is really worth a stop. There are beautiful roses of many varieties and the view of Lake Superior is wonderful. It's a great start to a drive up the Northshore. Our out of state relatives enjoyed it!
We didn't expect to see so many blooms visiting at the end of September. There was a wonderful variety of roses, in so many different colors, and the site overlooking LakeSuperior was beautiful on an early fall day!
Enjoyed this park very much. Lots of great overlooks to enjoy the lake views. Saw several wedding parties posing for photos. Everyone friendly and enjoying a lovely Autumn day.
