We took our 10 year old son and 17 year old nephew there for a few hours for something to do. They offer food, mini lockers, and a nice arcade. We able to drop them off for 3 hours while we checked out some local fun. The kids had a blast and we all got to do our own thing for awhile,
We just got back from Grand Harbor and our family had a great time. This was the sixth indoor water park we have been to and are veterans at this type of trip. The water park was perfect for our girls ages four and seven. It was not to big, not to small and had just the right amount of everything to keep them entertained for several hours. I liked that fact that the water park was warm and the water temp was fine as well this means no one got cold like we have experienced at other larger indoor water parks in Wisconsin. The only thing I think needs changing is the condition of the tubes. A lot of them were going flat and were scattered about the slide area. When I asked to have one aired up a life guard pointed me to an air compressor in the corner and let me air it up myself. ( I was ok with this) In the future I think they should be neatly stacked, aired up and ready to go through out the day. We also found that everything was being maintained fairly well. Sure there were a few small things on the large play structure that were not working but this happens at every park. The room: Our room was clean and ready to go when we showed up at noon and the check in was very quick so nothing to complain about there. The room was also well appointed with everything we needed and there was a very nice view of the river as well. We found the staff very competent, professional and friendly too! Tony Romas: This is the on-site restaurant and we ended up eating breakfast, lunch and dinner there. For a hotel restaurant we found the prices very reasonable and the quality of food was several notches above anything you would see at a resort in the Wisconsin Dells. There is nothing to complain about here so a tip of the hat to the Tony Romas staff for making all of our experiences there good! ( Having Summit Brewing Saga IPA on tap was great as well!) One little thing I would like to see is a walk up Starbucks coffee bar at Tony Romas in the mornings!! There was no on-site coffee shop other than if you ordered it (plain black coffee) in the restaurant or the stuff in the room. I think this kind of amenity would not take much effort to add and all of the parents with young kids staying there would love something like this!! I think it would be a nice little money maker for your property as well!! The long and short of it is don't let any negative reviews about this place scare you! These days people tend to complain about the stupidest little things. We had a great time and I am sure we will be back to enjoy it all over again!!
I forgot to mention how loud the waterpark area was, my youngest child was so scared of the noise that she would not play or let go of us. There has to be something that can help this issue. The locker/restrooms were FREEZING!!!! Turn the heat up or something and the bathrooms were not very clean at all for the price we paid to stay there! Also I felt there should be more lifeguards, especially by the little kids areas! There were long waits for the small elevators by the front door which is very cold in the winter. Lots of little things that made a huge difference in our satisfaction! I do not feel we got what we paid for!
The Grand Harbor provided the meals for the 2014 ISSA Convention and they were absolutly the best food I have ever had and I have been to a lot of them.
Each fall when we come to Dubuque for Fire School we stay here. Each room has a fridge and microwave. Really like having a fridge! We stay an extra night because it is so relaxing. Great bar with engaging bar tender.
We went for a girls' weekend. The staff was friendly and the room was nice. We didn't use the waterpark. Overall a nice visit.
The kids played until they nearly dropped. Lots to do for young ones under teen years I would think. The only drawback, gross and nasty bathrooms that need cleaned. There was toilet paper, towels, trash, and things left in shower stalls. We thought about staying but I didn't like the lack of cleanliness, so we didn't get a room and drove elsewhere. It was really strange that the check in/out desk is up on second floor, not the main floor. We will possibly go back, just keep a lot of sanitizers with us. There were a couple life guards on power trips, so thanks to the good ones who over-shadowed them! There are lockers but you have to purchase special coins that are a dollar a piece that you purchase from the arcade. Buy more than one, someone will accidentally forget to place something in there and the arcade will buy them back if you don't use them, that part was nice to know.
We stayed at Grand Harbor Resort on the first night of a vacation to the Wisconsin Dells. I have a 10 year old daughter and she loved the water park. The hotel staff were very nice and the hotel was clean and updated. We enjoyed our stay.
Weekends are busy, but it can still be fun. Noise from the water and screaming kids can be overwhelming if your ears are sensitive - there is no where for all the noise to go except bounce off the walls and echo everywhere. It can make it hard to hear anyone talking to you. Watch your own children because the young lifeguards may not...they seem pretty self-occupied and unconcerned about the young children under their feet. I would hate to imagine what would happen if an emergency really did arise...how long would it take for them to notice someone in danger. Your kids will love this place - and that is why we go.
We stayed here as part of a package with twilight riverboat cruises. the hotel has a water. Park good for kids. Food was good at tony romos. the live entertainment Thursday July 10th was really BAD. Not together or I tune. Other than that it was great
The Grand Harbor was a very nice resort right along the Mississippi River. In the back of the resort where tables with umbrellas where you could sight and enjoy the view.
On our first visit, we were impressed with the hotel staff's customer service. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our two-night stay. Overall, the facility is very nice. Located right along the Mississippi River with a beautiful walkway. Only drawback was the thin walls between rooms that impacted our sleep. The water park was OK. The exercise room is located near the top of the building and offers 2 televisions and a nice view of the area. However 2 of the 5 pieces of equipment needed maintenance. Our room price included water park passes, but we were charged an additional 3 percent for other amenities, including wi-fi, shuttle service and more.
The hotel has only 2 elevators that are 1/2 the size of your typical elevator. We waiting 10-15 minutes for an elevator each time. In order to get to the waterpark, you have to walk past the front doors - dead of winter, our walk was about 25 degrees. The locker rooms are about 50 degrees and all the toilet stall doors were broken. The water was cold. Limited tubes for the amount of people and the number of things that require a tube. VERY limited tables and chairs by the waterpark with limited lockers. Management is not trained and was very smug and unprofessional. I will NEVER go back and strongly encourage everyone else to not waste the money - rather drive to the Amana Colonies or to Des Moines to the Ramada indoor waterpark there. At least there you have enough elevators for people, the water is warm, and you don't have to walk out into frigid temps to get to the pool.
This was our 3rd time staying at this Resort. It has a little of something for everyone and is proximity to almost everything. The view is great, there's a great restaurant inside an nightlife for the grownups is very close. What more could anyone ask for.
The hotel is very clean and well appointed. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The kids loved the waterpark and the arcade. The fact that Tony Roma's is part of the facility is a big plus. That alone has brought us back for more hotel stays and we will return often in the future. This is the perfect short getaway for families in the winter.
