Great outdoor sculpture that changes every year. Some astoundingly imaginative pieces that come from near and far. I love looking at them almost every day when I walk on the Mississippi River.

The Mississippi Riverfront offers a great location to showcase a variety of sculpture in an outdoor setting. The artists use a range of media that challenge the imagination and evoke multifaceted ideas. I always enjoy strolling the Riverfront and appreciate the dimension these artists add to the experience.

Great way to spend time outdoors enjoying art and the beauty of the river! The art is set on the river walk and surrounding area.

Many large art objects, some worth eclectic concepts, others with fun and fantasy in mind. Watch eagles fly along the river, hit the casino, stop for meal and Waterpark at Grand River Hotel, or wine and music at StoneCliff.

The River walk is a gift to native Dubuquers. Those of us old enough to remember what the River Front once was, are thrilled at the beauty we now share. The sculptures are changed every year.

Placed along the river walk are some neat art pieces. Spread out over 1/2 mile, not grouped all together. Just a little something different and liked and looked at by many. .

It was a lovely day, and the sculptures were interesting. I would have liked more information on the plaques about the artists, and perhaps more background on the pieces.

This is the place to view sculpture. The art is situated along a grand river promenade which is beautifully landscaped accented by many striking hanging baskets. The art is available for purchase but don't plan to carry it off in your purse or pack. This exhibit changes every year so a return would be in order.

The Mississippi River offers a beautiful backdrop to Dubuque’s River Walk.Built atop a levee and part of the larger Heritage Trail system of more than 40 miles, the River Walk gives people a chance to enjoy nature and urban environments together. On one side of the walk is the world’s fourth largest river. On the other, a city that is more than 180 years old.The River Walk connects attractions at the Port of Dubuque – from the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium to the Star Brewery Complex. The Diamond Jo Casino stands a few feet off the River Walk. It offers gambling, dining and even bowling. The Grand Harbor Hotel and Water Park resort is next door to the casino. Both these businesses are off the River Walk. The River Walk is known for its art. “Art on the River” is an annual event that places new art pieces along the River Walk. It really adds to the aesthetic view. The pieces truly enhance the experience, without overpowering the walk. There were 10 pieces of artwork on display during our walk. We grabbed a brochure, so we could find and identify the pieces. Even then, it was easy to miss some of them because they blend in well with the River Walk area. One of our favorites was a baby deer sculpture, near the Grand River Center (an events center). The fawn appears to be looking back toward the Mississippi River. Below it is a shadow in the shape of a wolf that may be stalking it. The sculpture stands in front of a flower garden. The Grand River Center is the only building that butts up to and over the walkway. The river side of the building has a modern glass design. A small river viewing area is located next to it.Nearby, a floral display highlights flower sculptures in the shape of cones. There were four pieces; each had LED lights, so they could illuminate at night. One of the pieces I really liked was the Moving Compass. The glass looks like stained glass. Each piece has artwork on it. The Compass piece offered a nice foreground picture with the Star Brewery or the river and train bridge as background. The Star Brewery – once home to the Dubuque Star beer – is home to a winery and a small brewery museum. It is used as a backdrop for civic functions and weddings (which one was going on during our visit). The Shot Tower Landmark is a few steps off the River Walk. Once a prominent role in the lead smelting business, it outlived its industrial usefulness to become a fire station for a lumber company. Now, it stands as a memorial to Dubuque’s history.. The Dubuque River walk offered a great walking area with scenic views. I was impressed with the area and had a great time there. I strongly recommend making this a must-do attraction in Dubuque.

Thank you Dubuque for supporting the art community with such beautiful outdoor sculptures in such a lovely place. Each year in June, new sculptures are installed, and when they are done being shown, they may be purchased. They are a great way to share art with community members that may not otherwise take the time to go out of their way to view art.

After being in the car this was a nice reprieve. We walked along the river admiring how high the river was (several stairs down to landings were under 8 - 10 feet of water) and enjoying the art. A good way to stretch your legs.

Wonderful walk along the Mississippi River with numerous displays telling the history. Also displays telling all about the various ice companies that used to operate along here. The eleven sculptures were very interesting -- especially enjoyed the totem one.

This place was very beautiful. The river is so pretty to look at from here, not a whole lot of people on a Sunday afternoon, people were playing orchestra music for a while. It's free and relaxing.
