My friends and I play here often and we love the course. But it is very challenging for the higher handicap golfer. I would say it works for those who break 90 regularly but will be torture for those who don't. Lots of interesting holes, lots of risk reward - a shot maker's course. Very reasonable distances from the white tees where the premium is on accuracy versus distance. Usually in excellent shape with very nice greens. Course knowledge counts for a lot as knowing where to place the ball on drives and where to land on the greens really helps. From what I've heard, when it first opened it was just too hard for even the best golfers. Over the years they've softened it up to where we think it's a fun and interesting challenge. It's also a great value if you shop for discounted tee times or are a senior.
This course has been through many owners and management but not sure it will ever work out. The course has par 4s that you can't hit a wood on because of the 90 degree dog legs. No risk reward at all. Has a par 3 that is pitching wedge at most. Cost totally removes the chance for most causal middle class golfers to play. The cost should put this in the Harvester type class but falls woefully short. If looking for good golf at a reasonable cost, many DM courses to try, Beaver run, copper creek, wave land, etc.
Bos Landen was apparently closed last year and was just recently opened mid Summer (June) again by a California company called Warrior. It is still the same great course and they have still maintained it as it had been in the past. The driving range is still open but I don't think it's free, but not 100% sure. The grill only had hotdogs, etc. like a typical course. When I was there, the full restaurant was not in operation. You can tell they scaled back but it is still the same beautiful course. Glad they are open again and more people should try it out. Not many people there when we played.
Probably among the better public courses available in Des Moines. It has narrow fareways, lots of rolling hills and even in the fareways, few truly flat lies. Well maintained. On the expensive side with cart, but good value for the experience.
Beautiful surroundings with glass windows everywhere. Thanks to the staff for a good experience for my Aunt who loves golf.
Went in the late season but the golf course was in wonderful shape for fall season. Great Service and outstanding rates.
The course was amazing! The greens were outstanding and service was very good! The course was worth the 30 minute drive from des moines! Ive played almost all the up scale courses in iowa like TCI and The Harvester, but 29 bucks there is no better deal or value for your money in the state!
I also really like the driving range it is great to be able to do both on the same visit. Although I can not afford to be a member there, they do offer coupons which we have taken advantage of.
The service here is so bad that it overshadows everthing else. Greens are nice, but not worth the bad service. Food is average. It was obvious we were not really welcome to play here. Not only were the other guests, which should be ambassadors to the city rude, but the staff clearly favored people who had been there more. Luckily I was there as a guest only.
Bring lots of balls. Lots of potential, but the course is not up to par.
A well manicured course on rolling hills with a ton of bunkers.Lots of fun for all levels.
