This is a large stone obelisk dedicated to Sgt. Flloyd (Lewis and CLark) who died in the area on their historic trip. If you are interested in large stone obelisks, this is for you.

Sgt Floyd, must see US history stop. Tells the story of Sgt Floyd, who was the only member of the Lewis and Clark exp. to die during the trip. Go In the evening, awesome view of the surrounding area and river. Kids love it.

In the style of the Washington Monument, this is a nice place to see the monument dedicated to the only member to die on the Lewis and Clark expedition, Sgt. Charles Floyd. Accessible from Hwy 75 and can be viewed via Interstate 29. Provides history of the expedition and of the monument itself. And of course a great view of the Sioux City area and Missouri River.

Best view of the Missouri in the Sioux City area. This is a tomb of the only person who died on the Lewis and Clark trip. You can imagine the journey as you stand above the Missouri River and see the vastness of the area.

I read a little about Lewis and Clark before we started out road trip from Georgia to Seattle, so we decided to stop and see this memorial. It was well worth the stop. It should be a brief stop, since there are 3-4 info stations, the monument itself and then a very short walk to look off and see the Missouri River.

Monument to the only member of the Lewis and Clark expedition to have died on the trip. Great piece of American history; visible from I-29, accessible from US 75.

Good view of South Sioux City and the Missouri River. Nice shaded picnic tables. Has a rest room. It's not on I-29 but to get there from I-29 exit 143 Singing Hills Blvd, it's about 1 mile north on old Highway 75.

This is a rather large obelisk that faces a bluff overlooking the Missouri River, downtown Sioux City and the I-29. It's high enough for you to get a pretty nice view of the surroundings. The obelisk is a big stone tower. It's not much to look at, unless you're really into obelisks. The history behind the commemoration is more interesting than the structure itself. Poor Sergeant Floyd died of a burst appendix near the site of present day Sioux City during the Lewis and Clark expedition. He remains were buried and exhumed several times before landing up here, which is close to the original site of his burial.

Great that this monument of 22 year old Sergeant Floyd was put into place. He was the only member of the Lewis & Clark expedition -- 8,000 miles -- 4 years journey to pass away.

It was rainy and cloudy on the day of our visit, but I'd read the story about Sergeant Floyd so I really wanted to stop in. We certainly couldn't see much due to the clouds and the rain, but In good weather, I think the view would be really nice. Since there's no cost, it's certainly worth a stop. There's a nice park area surrounding this too, so you could easily stop for break under the pavilion.

Located along Hwy 75 near the First Brides Grave, this monument is a great spot to take in the view. You can see downtown Sioux City and the wonderful I-29 construction project that is going on.The monument is the burial site for Sgt Floyd who was the only person to die during the Lewis & Clark Expedition in 1804. The Floyd River is named after the young sergeant. The current monument was erected in 1901 after the original one eroded away along with the original burial location for Sgt Floyd. Its a nice spot for a quick stop, you only need about 10 minutes to see the monument and take some great pics.

This monument stands high on a hill overlooking the Missouri River, providing a nice view of the surrounding area. It's a very cool replica of the one in Washington, DC. There is some history from the L&C Expedition too. Definitely stop by if you have time, it won't be but a quick visit!

It was nice to sit up on the hill and look out at the river and the green lush grass. It is nice to read some history too.

Very neat, historical attraction. The view of the river and Nebraska was beautiful. I wish the information signs were updated. They were very weathered.
