Koenig had some fun wines that I had not tried before and I left with a bottle of the cabernet sauvignon ice wine. I do agree with some other reviews that it can get a little crowded if there are more than about 4 people.
On our visit to Koenig the servers were relatively unknowledgable or not willing to share what they know. You are told to choose from about 10 different wines, but only 5 should be tasted (wise restriction). But if more than 4 people are at the bar it is difficult to read the selections and others can get pushy trying to see. We also noticed that the servers didn't have any additional info on the wines other than what was printed on the tasting cards. Wish they knew more info on the wines which could help with selling. Since you can't taste the distillery products it would be helpful to have some printed info since the servers are not forthcoming. The wine selection was varied which should appeal to a wide variety of tastes
We stopped at Koenig on our wine tour. Although we couldn't try the Vodka or Brandy...stupid laws, I bought a bottle anyway. I'm glad I did. It's very good. It's not sicky sweet. It has a good hint of huckleberry without being loaded with sugar. It's awesome mixed with lemonade! The winery is very nice with cool things to look at, distillery pieces. The wine is good and the owners very nice. Do stop by on your visit to Idaho.
Koenig was the first Idaho winery we visited, and still a favorite place to visit. Seven Devils Bourbon is now available, and I predict shortages will ensue. It's that good. Happened to Maker's Mark recently, and I actually like Seven Devils better. If you're not familiar with Koenig wines, discover the Sangiovese. The 2011 has been released. Another sell-out, plan on it. Katrina was her usual wonderful self, and helped us carry our acquisitions to the car. Our favorites are the Riesling(s), the Syrah, Sangiovese and Ice Wine. Not to say the others aren't good. Then there are the Vodkas, Potato and Huckleberry. And the eau de vie style fruit brandies.Koenig produces a well-priced premium product, the people couldn't be nicer, and the setting is beautiful. Careful Napa, don't get complacent.
This winery was worth the drive into the Snake River Valley. They actually had a distillery so you could kind of see what would happen to the grapes. Of course we didn't see anything happen, but still gives you an idea. Was a beautiful building as well. Free wine tasting. I loved their white ice wine, best of the 5 vineyards we visited! They also have different flavored vodka as well.
We are frequently visitors to Koenig - it is a beautiful location, with wonderful full bodied red wines and its own distillery. The Huckleberry vodka is not sweet, but has the rich flavor of the berries -- everyone in the area buys it regularly! The tasting room is a nice experience and there are several other wineries within a mile or so...
