This place has great snow and great slopes, and absolutely no wait for lifts. You can literately ski your butt off. I'm a beginner and hubby is an expert skier, and we both had great times. The staff was extremely friendly and by the second day they knew us by names. Lift tickets, rentals, and lessons were very affordable. However, services were pretty limited. During the week, there's only 1 place for breakfast and 1 place for lunch/dinner. In addition to the Idaho sales tax (6%), there's also a Civic Assessment Tax (5%). A bit of a shocker, but with prices so reasonable it really didn't matter.
The slopes are wonderful, but it is depressing going up, since the bankruptcy, there are skeleton buildings everywhere.
This is a beautiful resort that has many amenities. Keep in mind that the resort is in the midst of a bankruptcy reorganization so some of the facilities are not complete. With that in mind, everything you need is available here. We had New Year's dinner at the Seven Devils restaurant and the service was excellent, even with a packed house. The torch parade and the fireworks display was awesome. The ski school is affordable and my kids liked their instructor. Morel's at the main lodge is also another great place to eat that offers a great view of the golf course. The Discovery lift is great for beginners and the people working the lift are very patient. The one thing that I wish the resort had more of are green runs for my kids to explore.
We have never felt more welcome than at Tamarack Resort. The staff seems to be delighted to have us there. Skiers and snowboarders are welcome. The staff have Great attitudes! Very helpful. The food is very good, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny. It is not cheap.
Beautiful surroundings. Gorgeous homes. So much potential. It was deserted. Many buildings were unfinished.
My wife and I had never been to the resort, nor had we known anyone that had ever been there. It is a ten hour drive from Olympia Wa to Tamarack. So we were more than a little wary. After leaving early in the morning, we arrived at Osprey meadows. We were greted by a freindly staff. The property was stunning. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bar was open, so we had a nightcap. In the morning we headed out to the golf course. Dustin, at the pro shop, was very helpful. And the course was well beyond what we had hoped for. Thanks to everyone at the resort, for making us feel at home. And for taking the time to share local attactions that we might enjoy...And yes we did enjoy them.Lee and Patty
After years of struggle, there may be light at the tunnel for this resort. The Hotel is finished and the ski slope is supposed to be open all week this year. The HOA owns the golf course and it is in great shape. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday. Keeping my fingers crossed as this is a great location and has great potential. If you try the golf course be prepared for some challenging holes. Use the tip book they provide or you will lose many golf balls.
Great long runs and easy to find untracked snow. Only downside is they are only open Thursday-Sunday. But at the same time you have Monday-Wednesday for the powder to stack up! So much fun.
The long runs are great, but some weren't groomed and the overall feeling was that this place is being managed on a shoestring. The lodge wouldn't let me bring my own food inside - I've not experienced a ski lodge not open to the skiers in general. I wanted to buy a light beer, but none on tap. The bartender was struggling with the cash register for 5 minutes +, so I gave up on buying a bottle of domestic (didn't need a beer anyway). The ticket office staff was great, the lift guys were great, but food and beverage people not so much- except I did like the casual bar up the mountain in the Yurt They had a few snacks and $4 dollar 12 oz.cans of beer (domestic) $7 for a mixed drink (ouch!), but a real nice bartender. Note: there were no prices to be found before ordering a drink (beware) I don't know all the politics going on at this resort, but definitely think the atmosphere is get the money while you can.
Tamarack Resort is always an awesome experience! despite the lack of snow in recent years, the ticket value, the smiling staff, the excellent food options (especially this year), and the terrain parks/lifts/grooming are all fantastic! for all the problems they have encountered over the years they have put so much effort into creating a warm, welcoming, and professional atmosphere one is hard pressed to remember the past! the access to the side country is ideal for people without sleds and is some of the best side/back country you will find in idaho! the list goes on and on...hoping everything gets resolved for them!
You have to visit the zip-line at Tamarack resort. Great guides, great views and a great experience.
We stayed for three nights in July and had a nice stay. It is a smaller resort with, I believe, 57 rooms. The location, views and scenery around the resort at tops. The hotel gym, pool and whirpool areas are also outstanding. The rooms are adequate, with nicely appointed decor, adquate beds and a spacous bathrooms. About half the rooms have balconies which I suggest getting in the summer months. The resort is a ski focused resort, so the service is limited in the Summer. (The front desk was only staff 8 hrs during our initial days). There was also limited food service - basically lunch and dinner but no breakfast. Donnally is 10 minutes away and McCall is 20 minutes away. McCall is a fun, touristy lake town with plenty of dining options. We rented bikes one day and enjoyed some off road biking through their "moderate" mountain trails. The "expert" trails exist for the serious bikers.
We have a nearby cabin and have purchased family season passes for the past couple of years and we LOVE the mountain here! My 14, 12, & 8 y/o boys love coming here because the staff is friendly, the area is uncrowned and roomy for beginner skiers. The mountain is roomy for all levels of skiers! I really appreciate the level of support the existing owners and community provide to give this place a pulse! Our family will continue to support too. The dining facilities at the bottom of the lifts and the little yurt at the top of one of the chairs is great. After the lifts close, we all shuttle into the seven devils pub for the apre ski get togethers. The rental facility is great too!I would recommend any aspect of this resort to visitors and explain to them that they must have some understanding of the history surrounding the facility so as to set their expectations at the right level. It is a defunct, unfinished, quality resort with a passionate association and community behind it doing what they can, as best as they can, and as smartly as they can to get it back on its feet one step at a time. These people are in it for the long haul. It will take time.
Of all the Western Idaho resorts, Tamarack opened first, and had the best snow. While Bogus was a literal rock garden in places towards the end, I didn't hit one rock the entire season at Tam. 2800 ft of vertical, and rarely a crowd. Because there are no waiting in lines, 3 hrs of skiing at Tam is like 9 hrs of skiing any place else.
I move to Idaho too late for the 2012 ski season, but I didn't miss 2013! I live 8 miles from Tamarack Ski Resort, and it is where I have spent most of my time this winter. The most spectacular thing about this resort is the view from the top of the mountain! A close second would have to be the lack of people! I have never waited in line for a chairlift, but I occasionally have waited for a drink. There is a great variety of terrain and runs, and the snow conditions have been good this year, even though the locals say the snow has been scarce compared to prior years. The only complaint I have is the lack of beginner runs. My girlfriend has been learning to snowboard this year, and the only beginner terrain was a catwalk which is obviously frustrating for a new snowboarder. All in all, a great hometown resort that is a bit of a sleeper. I
