farragut state park

Farragut S.P. is quite a large park with many different activities. I visit in frequently since it is so close, probably 50 times or more a year. There are miles of trails for hiking, running, biking, and, for us, training sleddogs. It has several campgrounds which are full through most of the summer. Despite accomodating a large number of visitors, the trails seem relatively uncrowded. It also offers boating, beaches, equestrian trails, and a disc golf course.

Wonderful day use areas, trails, excellent boat ramp, nice camping areas for RVs, Tents, and Boats. Central location near natural areas and National Forest land.

Not crazy busy like CDA gets, we were able to kayak the lake for several hours without anyone swamping us with a boat or PWC. Although we didn't camp here we did check out the facilities for future use, and they looked very nice! Real camping, no glamping!

The campground it has a lot of different loops. Some of then a very nice some of then looks like you are camping in a parking lot... Facilities are ok beach is beautiful. They are a lot of trials to bike.

Farragut State Park was a great discovery for us in September. It is a huge park with about 5 camping pods, several group areas, and a primitive area if you are self contained that is only $10 a night around a huge pasture like area. The campgrounds are well laid out with power and water, very nice restrooms and lovely green areas in each camp area. There are many hikes with varied physical levels and distances. And all are close to the beautiful Lake Pend Orielle, including a great hiking trail. The town of Bay View is nearby for laundry, food and good coffee. The Navy still tests submarines in the lake. There is an interesting Museum in the State Park but it was closed while we were there. We hope to visit it again!

We took our granddaughter to Farragut to play the kids disc golf course. Needless, to say, she loved it. At nine years old she can't really get the distance yet but playing the kids course she was able to shine. There are several adult disc golf courses (3 ) besides the kid course. The views were breathtaking, the history of the naval training that took place there, beautiful picnic spots & camping areas, so be sure to bring your camera. You can spend an hour, three hours or overnight but whichever fits you it will be worth it. We will definitely be repeating this experience!

Beautiful views. Interesting to hear about it being an old base and they still test submarines in the lake.

A very nice Idaho State Park with great roads and even better camp sites, if I had a trailer or motor home this would be a great place to camp. I stayed in one of the basic camper cabins which sleeps five easily and was a bargain. The cabin had a heater and A/C unit along with electrical plug ins if you need them. Just toss your sleeping bag and pillow on the mattress of the lower bunk or the fold out futon next to it and you are set. I had my own fire ring and picnic table like the camp sites and fire wood is for sale at the store or with the camp host. The bathroom (with showers) were close and very clean. The visitor center was really nice and the staff was fantastic. As for things to do, the Museum at the Navy Brig was such a surprise. The history involved with this park originally being a Navy Boot Camp during WWII was a shock, the size of the boot camp as seen in pictures was more like a city. The Navy memorial (see the pictures) reminded me of memorials I saw in Washington DC, such detail. A good place to sit and reflect. There are also places to swim, ride bikes, there's disc golf (with a pro shop in the visitor center), and a lot of trails through the woods (lots of trees) to hike with great views of the lake. Bayview Idaho is very close and has a few good places to eat and Hayden is not too far if you want a larger selection....but it's also far enough that you still get the camping away from it all feel. If you are a military veteran you really should think about paying this park a visit. I look forward to coming back.

We could only spend one night as we were on the road.We had a 30 ft. motor home and found many available pull thru sites (Late Sept.)Bathrooms were spotless and fresh smelling. The entire park looked like it had been scrubbed with a toothbrush :)In a short time we saw a huge Moose, a flock of Wild Turkeys and many Deer. Highly recommend.

We went to the park specifically to see the old naval training facility where our father graduated in 1944. We had a chance to donate his uniform to the museum. The ranger we talked to was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a great time talking to him about the history of the place. The rest of the park was quite beautiful also.

Has some great hiking trails and a few east spots to swim, but not a lot of spots to camp that are close to the water. It is a beautiful park to visit for a day trip though.

I spent Labor day weekend in Farragut State Park, Idaho. The park was gorgeous. If you go you can hike down to the lake. The lake is absolutely gorgeous. Take enough time to explore the trails. I had so much fun hiking them. Lots of people bring their bikes to do trail riding. You will see tons of wildlife including white tail deer, chipmunks, and a variety of birds.

The sites are clean and well kept with power and water hookup. Some sites have great privacy. We enjoyed a accompanied site. Lots to do. Close to Silverwood theme park and the park itself has a lot to offer. There are 5 free Disk Golf courses which can provide hours of fun and activity. Beach and lake is great and the historic aspect is appealing to all. Excellent park. We will be back

We were very impressed with the museum. It was our main goal for our trip north. The guide was extremely well informed and helpful. The exhibits were very informative. Afterwards my husband and I spent dinner comparing notes about what all we had learned. The exhibit about the German POWs was instructive, the photos of the shooting range that accommodated 100 shooters at a time amazed me, but I especially enjoyed the letters home by some of the new recruits. I still can't quite picture such a huge naval station up there (though the roads were very much like what I used to experience on Air Force bases) that may have housed as many people as lived in all of the rest of Idaho back then. The park itself is also beautiful. We met a young deer that wanted to play hide and seek and was far too happy playing on the road, but there was a young buck keeping an eye on her. The viewpoint was stunning. We didn't make use of any of the rest of the park. We are already talking about making a second visit next spring. We will recommend the park and museum to anyone who will listen.

The park is very well maintained and the staff friendly. Good hiking trails (get a map from the visitor center - we got lost...). Disc golf was fun (discs on sale at the visitor center). The museum is interesting and well worth the stop (even the non-historians in our group liked it). It is close enough to make a day trip to Silverwood or Sandpoint (we when to the Festival there).
