A nicely scaled building full of eccentricities guided by knowledgeable docents. Painting, architecture, sculpture, furnishings and more.
I had the opportunity to visit Legislative Hall during Dover Days and take a tour. The tour guide was great and talked about the two party system and the history. I was new to the State of Delaware and this gave me good information about the legislative process and also visit the governor's office. Well worth the time to take a tour.
I doubt there is a smaller Leg Hall in any of the other states. It's a nice place to visit, worth the stop if you are coming to or passing through Dover. You can expect to spend about 15-30 minutes walking around. I never took any guided tours but unless you want the history of the place you don't need one.
It seems amazing how even small states have such incredible buildings for their Capitols - clearly important for pride and historical politics. This building has the feel of a gentlemens' club though very much of a working building what with lobbyists etc.
The legislative hall was much smaller than I had expected. The staff was very friendly and answered any and all questions. I was even able to get into the chamber and get a picture both as speaker of the house and president of the senate. Neat place to stop on the way, but not a destination.
The visit to Delaware's State Capitol Building called Legislative Hall was awesome. The tour guide was friendly and informative as well as the security guards. So nice to have a welcome at a Capitol building. I recommend to set up an actual tour as the staff are very willing to answer all questions and are very knowledgeable.
It was pouring rain when I made my way to Dover's capitol building. The security guards were super nice and told me a bit about the history of Dover. There were students (college? high school?) listening to some pretty important-looking folks talk about some pretty-important sounding stuff. I can't be more specific than that because I wasn't part of their tour. But it was nice to see young people interested in learning more about their state history and politics and nice to know that state representatives take time out of their busy days to reach out to students. I know there are programs and tours available and if you are in Dover, it would be worth a trip to their Legislative Hall.
Enjoyed a nice tour here on a rainy November day. The tour guide was pleasant, enthusiastic and quite knowledgeable about the history of the building and the artwork.
Was in the State Capital and saw that Legislative Hall was open for visitors. Easy access through security, with a friendly and informative security guard. The Legislature was not in session, but some of the secretarial staff was on hand to answer any questions and point out some tidbits. Beautiful older building and lovely staff.
We were walking by and wasn't sure if we could go in took a chance the door wasn't locked and walked in. We were greeted, walked thru security and given visitor badges. We joined a guided tour in progress and when the tour was over the guide took us thru everything we had missed. Guide was very informative and answered all our questions. Took about 45 minutes well worth our time.
I have been in Legislative Hall many times. The paints are outstanding and the dark wood throughout the building is very special. It's very interesting to be in the balcony of legislative hall and look down on the proceedings.
This is where all the action takes place on laws in Delaware. Thay have a visitors galley and it is worth the trip
The political heart of the First State. Legislative Hall is centrally located on the "mall" in Dover, Delaware. An easy walk from the Green, "Leg Hall", as it's known locally, is where the political decisions of the day take place. The First State is a small wonder and our legislators are highly accessbile as compared to larger states. Visit while the legislature is in session to get a first hand glimpse of government at work!
