brighton ski resort

OK - I love to review and offer great advice to travelers....this review is hard for me to write because I don't want to share this awesome somewhat secluded place!! Brighton ski resort in Utah was one the best ski areas I have ever visited! Bare bones but seriously awesome mountain!!! Ok..that's all i'll share... :) Enjoy!

My boyfriend had never skied before and I'm not very good myself, so I picked Brighton based on their beginner package. It was the most affordable of all the resorts in the area, and we were very pleased with the group lessons. We breezed right through the rentals on a Friday morning and had time to kill before the lesson started. We were split up by age and ability into small groups - my group only had two people. The instructor immediately assessed my ability and weaknesses and had me working on a couple things that really helped - this was the first time I skied without falling down! The line for the beginner lift was sometimes long and the resort itself is kind of old school, but I enjoyed it. It really wasn't very crowded, which is what I was looking for. I also loved that they used RFID for the lifts, so there was no scanning of lift tickets needed.

Took 2 boys and myself to Brighton as a Christmas present. One son snowboards, other son & I took lessons. The instructors are patient and the classes were small, splitting folks up based on age and ability. For newbies, the lift ticket/ski rental package can't be beat for price. The lines can be long for rentals but the staff is well organized and get you geared up as quickly as they can. Hint - if renting multiple days, ask them were to store the skis/poles onsite so you don't have to carry to your hotel. And when you get to your hotel, take your boots inside so they stay warm. There was no lines at the lifts and the slopes were in excellent condition - we did get 14" of snow one day which was fantastic. One day we ate in the cafe but the next 2 we brought our lunches - there is a separate building/area for picnic lunches. In total, we skied 3 days and loved every minute of it.

I am not a great skiier and cling to the ski instructors and lessons. Having said that, I was most pleased with my instructors (esp Helene) and finally got on a blue run my last day. Woo Hoo! We use the La Qunita hotels near the airport because they are user friendly, beds are fantastic and pricing is so affordable. We bought our lift tickets on line prior to coming and got great discounts. We absolutely love Brighton. I was very impressed how nice everyone is at Brighton, from the ski staff to the locals-both staff and skiiers went out of their way no matter how tired they were from working or skiing!This is our fourth trip there and can't wait to go back. Mid January is a lower attendance period (post holidays and pre spring break. Locals say try to come during weekdays- best for low people count on the slopes.

We have been skiing here for seven years and am so disappointed this establishment believes it is respectful to tell a retired service member of 25 years of service and tours in Iraq that his military ID does not qualify for their military discount. Since when does "only active duty" count as military service. Disgraceful to our uniformed men and women

I'm a fan of Brighton as a first day of skiing or if your mind wants to ski but your body wants to take a day off then head over to Brighton. The runs aren't as long as Snowbird or Alta nor as challenging. Unlike Alta or Snowbird or the adjacent Solitude it's an easy mountain to navigate. My only complaint about Brighton would be the outdated facilities. They could use either a mid-mountain or top mountain lodge to spread the traffic at the base rather than the two lodges stacked on top of each other. They could also design an easier route to go from the main mountain to the Milly area. If the weather conditions are warm leaving the trail slushy or if there's a lack of snow leaving it bare you'll have to walk about 100 yards to catch the Milly chair. I was there on the Sat after New Year’s. Although the parking lot seemed crowded the longest wait on a chairlift line was probably 10 minutes and that was the Crest Express right after lunch. Brighton isn't my favorite mountain in the SLC region but it does serve a purpose. It you want a rustic resort where the locals hang out then this place is for you.

Busier than Solitude and full of snowboarders , I'll happily go back here. Milly's chair has some great runs as does Crest.

We came here from Northern California to ski/board...because the local Tahoe conditions are lacking back home. Lift ticket prices are some of the best as this is considered a locals ski resort. You can get discounted tickets in SLC...so get them before you drive up. Now this place isn't as big as the Park City Ski Resort, but there is plenty of terrain to let loose and enjoy yourself. We parked near the west lift (Milly Express) and brought food/drinks should we decide to return to the vehicle. If you park by this lift, you're just a few steps to the lift. Only problem is that there is only one trail over to the other lifts (and more popular side of the mountain). I didn't find the return trail, but my buddy did...so it is possible to ski from this side of the mountain to the other side and back. One of the best characteristics about this resort is that they use electronic gates that scan your lift pass while in your pocket. Just don't put it near your cell phone as it can deactivate the pass. My buddy had to put his right up to the gate sensor to work, but my worked from my pocket. The advise that you keep your receipt handy in case your pass stops working. But like one of the other reviews mentioned, locals here in the SLC area (and this resort), seem to be a bit rude. I've visited SLC several times in the past and didn't experience this on those trips. Has the culture changed or did we just happen upon the worst of the worst...in other words, bad timing?

Ive only been once but I'm definitely going back it is an amazing resort with a lot of terrain on offer. Whether your a park rat or a free rider every lift has different terrain. Personally i love Milly chair there are so many jibs and rock drops even a few cliffs to play around on. I would recommend anyone who lives in Salt Lake if you haven't been to Briton yet get your board out of the garage and go for a shred!

This ski resort is great for all ski levels, there are many different ski runs. I had an unforgettable experience here and the staff were so helpful definitely worth a visit.I Would happily ski here again

My 19 year old son and I are boarders and we had a fantastic day at Brighton. Whether you are looking for groomed or glades it just offers so much. I agree with another review that some of the runs are a bit short but good variety especially blues and blacks along with go virtually anywhere off trail and it makes for a great day. Also the views of the back side of the mountain are crazy! My only knock would be the food, average.

Snow here was fabulous and trails good but facilities limited. Having said that, it was a fabulous day, relatively uncrowded even though it was a Sunday. I would rate it up there with my visits to Colorado resorts but after skiing Solitude, I would choose Solitude over Brighton due to facilities. Can't fault that snow though

Almost to good to be true........ January is "Learn To Ski" Month.. Took the family for a day of Skiing and saved a lot of money compaired to the other resorts. The staff was excellent from the Host, Rental staff and our instructor "Forgot his name" He had a Beard and wore a Big Green Rasta Hat. This was a great program

1. Inconsistent trail markings. We spent a day skiing the Greens off Snake Creek Express and enjoyed it. But, I have 3 young kids so having a lodge at the bottom of the lift is a requirement. We ventured off to the Milly lift the next day because the trail map shows a couple of Green runs off it. COMPLETE DISASTER. The Greens off Milly should be labeled Blue (or even Black). My 7yo walked more than halfway. I'm a single parent so I don't have the luxury of exploring the runs on my own before I take my kids. I have to rely on the trail map to be consistent.2. There is no structure to the lift queue. No organization. People come in from all sides. It's not that any skier or boarder was rude. It's just that it's impossible to know who is next.3. For what it's worth, boarders get an undeserved bad rap. We saw more out-of-control and rude skiers than we did boarders. In general, the boarders were friendly and courteous. One boarder got run over by a young skier (slow motion) and removed his board to help the skier get back up.4. Parking lot is 30' vertical lower than the lifts. You're in for an insane climb first thing when you get there. Or, you can take the elevator.

We visited here two days in a row. The trails were really fun with quite a bit of possibility to go into and out of the woods, even for our blue slope 10 year old. We returned for this part of the mountain. The facilities, however, are not first rate. The eating areas are very small and crowded, have a limited selection, and bathrooms are packed. The lift lines were basically not controlled at all, leading to a mass of confusion and the lifts' names were not posted so that things can be very confusing. They could fix this with a little work.
